High Quality

I've Got It
Hello! I am just wondering how to get the best quality videos? I was just comparing mine to JoeyGraceffa's and it's just painful to see the quality difference.

I record with a HD camera (also happens to be my phone) and I render HD, but it just doesn't turn out high quality. I have a newer Canon camera but it records in .mov. I use Sony Vegas and it is impossible to edit in it because it is so laggy, so I am forced to use my phone. I do believe the quality problem is because I shine a lamp on my face (that sounds weird) but I don't know. Like sure it makes it brighter, but I also think it makes my face TOO bright and it just ends up looking weird.

If you look at any of his videos that he's just sitting there talking to the camera or doing a challenge or whatever, you'll notice great quality. I think it might be because he has those professional lighting kit things with the lights and stuff (sorry I don't know how to describe it LOOL).

I am not going to buy this any time soon (unless I explode) as I just started 9 days ago. None of my subscribers have complained so far but still.

Do you have any tips on how to improve the quality (most importantly lighting for me) of your videos to look professional like his?

Thank you! x)

Yeah the reason why his vlogs, and other vloggers videos are such good quality is because they have good equipment. They all have really good cameras, professional lighting, and good video editing software.

maybe get a real camera, i mean, phone cameras are pretty good nowadays but they don't really compare to a decent Canon with a tripod and a couple of lamps, btw if you think your lighting is too bright try placing the lamp further back from you.

Light is an important aspect when filming, because much like the human eye, there needs to be a balance to see things correctly for a camera as well. Whatever you record in, whether it's full HD or 720p, make sure you render with that exact setting as well. Natural light/daylight is the type of bulb you'd need to get a good clear picture. Using a normal indoor light will be a harsh yellowish color, and make things seem blotchy.[DOUBLEPOST=1377224642,1377224543][/DOUBLEPOST]

Nonsense, though I wish I could afford a great camera, my phone works well for some high quality footage shots. Plus if I play around with it in After Effects, I can make it look even sexier. -Purr.-

A lot of people say "use lamps or household lighting" but the quality is horrendous. I got a 2 point lighting kit for about $130 and it's terrific, although both stands broke. As for the lights themselves, they're a world of difference. I know getting my 50mm lens to work would be much better.

I said phones are pretty good lolz but I was thinking if you wanted studio quality footage, nothing beats a proper set-up

You should try pointing the lamp on some white bristol board to reflect back on your face. cheap way to do it :)

I guess you could improve the quality of your vlog's or what ever with better equipment, although that will be much more expensive. Rendering to a good quality is important and a clear voice can overshadow poor video quality, if people can clearly hear what your saying, that's most important imo.

True, but I think maybe I'll invest in that once my channel takes off more.[DOUBLEPOST=1377225761,1377225721][/DOUBLEPOST]

Aha yea I render to 1080p but I just realized my phone records in 720p. Is this a problem? Should I be rendering to 720p or 1080p?[DOUBLEPOST=1377225812][/DOUBLEPOST]

Haha yea, I would love to use my camera, but it records in a format that Sony Vegas does not support :(
