Hiding your channel

I don’t usually have a problem with telling people I have a channel, but since I’m in school for cosmetology I decided to not let the people I go to school with know about my channel.

The reason why I don’t want the people I go to school with know is because I know i probably will end up getting harassed and bullied over it and I don’t want to end up getting in an argument because the school policy is they call the police right away and both people go to jail even if it’s self defense. I’m also paying way to much money to go that shool to get kicked out.

My grandpa likes to tell everyone about my channel because she’s always been proud of what I do, so one day she ended up telling the lady who works at the front desk about my channel. The lady told a bunch of girls that I had a youtube channel and I do makeup and hair tutorials I don’t by the way I’ve only did a few tutorials on my channel but I mostly do comedy videos and. Hauls and pop culture related stuff. My content is made for teens and young adults so most of the students wouldn’t get what my videos are about because they have no idea about the meme culture and the pop punk, emo, goth culture. They wouldn’t understand it and they probably would bully me over it.

I’ve been having people come up to me everyday asking if I make videos because that lady is telling everybody I do and singling me out by saying the girl with the pink does it. I just replied with no and walked.

I feel like as an employee she had no business in the first place talking about me to other students and because of it I’ve been having people I’m trying to stay away from who likes to fight confront me now.

Have you ever kept your channel a secret from certain people in your life?

I totally understand you... nobody in real life knows about my channel and it just feels great! Simply because I know they are not my audience so what's the point? If they are curious they will probably only affect my Audience Retention

Right now, there's so many people trying to find about me,, they just wanna find me and see my face... I'm scared that in the future someone IRL will try to use that to their advantage or try to blackmail me!

I don't care about fame... I want people to fall in love with my content... not with my face, nationality or what I do in real life, none of those things will affect the way my audience watches my videos so there's no point,, it will only be more work for me just to please some people and they will forget about all that in a week
 
Some of my family know but, I don't tell them when I upload or anything. No one at work knows. I do not post it on my facebook because of my family. It would just be much easier if I lived somewhere that I knew no one. I always make sure no one I know is around when I'm recording.
 
I usually stick with an "if you are interested in what I post, YouTube will probably recommend it to you at some point" mindset when people ask me about my channel. Sometimes I will tell a friend what I've been up to if they keep asking, but chances are pretty high that they aren't my target audience...

I'd keep it a secret as best as you can for now. If people find out about it, there's really not much you can do except ignore them. It could be that you find someone else there that makes videos and you could talk about it together, but that can also lead to its own issues.. :/
 
I don't talk about it much either, although I'd like to "come out clean" at some point and produce quality videos in my main language, also because I did already a small talk in real life about the history of videogames, and it may be a starting point to some more local activities.

That reminds me when one of my university colleagues discovered my Youtube channel, out of nowhere! I was surprised because I never mentioned that, he found it cool but to be honest in that moment I wish I could disappear underground!
 
I think people call this a self-fulfilled prophesy or something.

If you think that you will be bullied, then the universe will fullfil your thoughts!

No, you are not going to be bullied, instead start thinking that people hearing on your channel will be interested, will become viewers and fans. In your class? You will be a mini celebrity, a girl with an established channel.
It is not that you push people to watch! It is called word of mouth (from this old lady) if my english are correct.

When you have 5.2k followers and growing thats called success which you should very proud of!!. Surprised you have not found more ways to monetise your channel. If anyone wants to bully you thats their plain ignorance and jealousy. You're a talented confident and attractive gurl which probably just pissis them off. But thats their problem. WTH kinda skool u going to anyway? sounds ruff!. Don't swallow the BS about how you won't be anything unless you go to college.. You can have my degree if you want- it's totally worthless. I think you should recognise your career as an influencer and embrace self employment. Do what you're already good at and enjoy.
oh all thtis time I thougt you were pumpkinprincess.. only just noticed punkprincess.. I guess I'm disklestic!? I enjoyed your last upload. I put my Christmas fairy lights back on to watch it for my xmas rerun. :) :)

I go to cosmetology school so I can become I certified hair styles.

Yes some of the students are very very rough. I got into it with a couple of students today. It is a jealousy thing because they I got mad I’m the only one that got my makeup kit and they also want me to bring my own makeup that I buy that has nothing with school and I won’t do it. They treat my like I can’t do any of it right, so I say something when they treat me like that and it makes them even madder at me. Today one girl said she was going to beat my ......

I told the instructor because it was getting out of hand and she defended them she tried to justify the way they was treating me.

They also got upset because the head administrator came in and wanted me to wax his eyebrows, so that was another thing they was upset about and they had to stop waxing their legs so he could get his eyebrows waxed.[DOUBLEPOST=1549581357,1549580991][/DOUBLEPOST]

I don’t care about fam either. I like that my community is people that gets the jokes the memes etc.

I don’t care if other people I know in real know about channel because all my friends know and even random people I meet at the stores know. But when it come to people at my school I know if they know I’m going to have issues with them[DOUBLEPOST=1549581450][/DOUBLEPOST]

I know positive thoughts lead to postive things, negative thoughts lead to negative things.
It’s just I’m already getting harassed, so that’s why I say that[DOUBLEPOST=1549581497][/DOUBLEPOST]

Everyone I know, knows I 'Do YouTube'. But very few of them are interested past that point. Some ask what its called and I either just dont tell them the name or just give a vague overview of what I do.
My Dad is a specialist high school teacher in an engineering school and played my automotive channel on loop in the background. That was quite embarassing but they have used some of content during the class which is quite cool.

I do also have a diet vlog channel but thats currently hidden. Maybe when/if I ever lose weight I can go live with it again.
