Hiding or Showing your sub count? Pros and Cons

If you have hid your subs during your starting period, around what point did you make it public?

Hey Everyone!

Quick question I thought about last night. My channel just recently started and I found myself deciding to hide my sub count from the public to start out. My thought process was that people seeing that I only have a handful of subs right now might be a deterrent for watching my videos. Basically someone with like 1,000 subs its like "hey 1,000 people think this is entertaining let me check it out." whereas right now for me its like "oh only 8 people find this entertaining, maybe ill find a bigger channel to view this content on."

Is this valid? Or can someone dispel my worry as nothing more than overthinking.

I thought the exact same thing, so I hid mine and after about 2 weeks my growth actually slowed. I didn't think about it until now, but I think I'll show it again, see if it makes any difference

While I agree with you that having a low sub count will affect people's chances of subscribing to you, I feel hiding it is even worst. It might give off the signal that you're insecure or untrustworthy. The best solution is still to display it but make really good content. If you make content that's rare, provides high value, hard to imitate whether due to good editing or just the content's nature makes hard to copy, and you make videos that are in demand, people will subscribe. They'll feel like they found something that most people are not aware of, and it'll make them feel special that they're one of the first to subscribe.

I've heard it is never a good idea to hide your sub count because most people like honesty and transparency. So I will not hide mine and I personally don't like it when people hide theirs. I do see how there could be some pros, but I feel the cons overpower it.

I wouldn't hide your sub count. Some people like to sub to small channels who need some help. Also, those early subscribers will take pride in the fact that they subbed to you when you were small after your channel blows up :thumbsup2:

Wow didn't expect this many responses so fast! Thanks Everyone, self confidence just leveled up! Subs are now visible.

As a viewer I've never liked people hiding their sub count I don't know why but I just want to know where the channel is at. For me it indicates how far into the channel they are and I actually love watching lower subbed channels videos. It interests me to see they change in the transition of growth. I understand your point of view that it may deter others but personally hiding it is what deters me. Each to their own though that's just my preference, if the quality of videos is good then it shouldn't matter either way I just think it's nice for the new supporters to know where the channel is at and whether the channel could do with some assistance in sharing their content etc.

I have always had my sub count set as public, I'm proud of my sub count so I dno why I should hide it
