Help with Sony Vega Picture in Picture Face CUT OUT Video

SonicR360

I've Got It
Hi Guys
I was not sure what to really call this post, but here is my problem Sony Vegas Pro 13.
Logitech C920 WebCam is great for face.
I done a game and got the Picture in Picture, but I have noticed my video at the top right corner is too wide.

What I want to know, is whether it is possible to "square" My facecam picture at the top right of the screen.

Just conscious that some of my newer videos are taking up gameplay space on the main video if that makes sense.
I am aware you can use Event / Pan CROP and change aspect to 1:1 which is great..... and removes some of the background, but I am then unable to move the video in this aspect.

If you want more info, please ask. Thanks.

Sounds like you've got the aspect down, and you should be able to use that same tool to zoom to where you want. Past that, you should be able to use the "Track Motion" tool (over on the left side of the track, in the main controls) to actually resize if needed, and drag around to move the face cam. Is that tool giving you any trouble?[DOUBLEPOST=1457624271,1457624172][/DOUBLEPOST]This is the icon... I googled up a photo of the thing, because it was quicker than loading Vegas and screenshotting. :D

Hi, you could well be onto something here, but now my overlay web cam border no longer seems to fit around the video :(

Hmmm... do you have the border loaded on a separate video track? If so, you'll need to dupe the specs (the height, width, and all the coords) that ended up in the facecam Track Motion box after you moved it. Then it should fit perfectly over.[DOUBLEPOST=1457625550,1457625504][/DOUBLEPOST]Makes the border track the exact same size, etc. as the new facecam track. And if they were perfectly fit before, they should go back to being perfectly fit. It's annoying, but probably worth the time and effort. :D

Ok thanks. I sort of understand what you mean ....... I am still learning this tool. My original border was more widescreen. I cannot send you a link on here as they get removed, but I wanted to make my facecam video more "square" than "wide", if that makes sense.

Gotcha. So you do have a facecam track, and a separate border track? I assumed you already had your border resized and squared over your new 1:1 facecam video prior to trying to relocate it. If you haven't already, you may need to use the Pan/Crop tool on your border track, to get it squared up to the same size as your facecam video... Then the matching up numbers trick in Track Motion on both tracks should work.

Easiest thing to do is probably plop the video right back where it came from to make sure that your border is correct first, and then Track Motion both items identically. So I'd say, head to Track Motion to undo and move the facecam video back to X:0 Y:0, which is where it probably came from (or if you didn't save the project... good). Hopefully that puts your facecam back to where your border is, sitting in the middle of your screen or wherever.

So let's say you had resized your facecam video in Pan/Crop to 300x300, just to pick arbitrary numbers. Resize your border to the same height/width in Pan/Crop and go ahead and get it perfectly overlaid how you want it to look. If it looks good in the wrong location on-screen, it should still look good in the new location. :D

From there, it's off to the Track Motion tool on the facecam video track, to drag the sucker to the corner where you want it. Note the X,Y coords (and the height/width if you decided to resize it in the Track Motion tool as well). Let's say you dragged it over to X:-1000 Y:500 or something. Then head over to the Track Motion tool on the border track, and manually type in those exact X,Y coords (and height/width if applicable).

Like I said, it can be a pain having to work in all the separate layers, but it makes a good product in the end. I'm not sure if there's any kind of "grouping" tracks tool... there probably, which would make life easier. But this just the way I normally work with objects and tracks, ha ha...

Yes facecam is in one track and at the top of my project is the webcam overlay. The facecam has always been wide to be honest, so I wanted to try to look at it being more square.
If I select the FACECAM Track, use EVENT/PAN CROP, there is a preset called 1:1 Square aspect ratio. This looks good. BUT ... it places the video in the middle of the screen. If I attempt to move it or resize, the 1:1 square is gone.

So what I want is to get the 1:1 square aspect ratio at the top right. Then I guess, once done, I can do the same with the web cam overlay? Or perhaps re-create a new overlay.

Should be able to do the same. So I'd say...

1) On the overlay, Pan/Crop to the 1:1 setting just as you did your facecam, and see if that looks good over your facecam in the middle of the screen. If that doesn't look good then you may have to tweak your overlay in an image editing program. You should end up with a perfectly fitted facecam and overlay, but in the center of your screen.

2) On the facecam video track, click Track Motion then drag the facecam to the corner where you like it. Write down the X,Y coords.

3) On the overlay video track, click Track Motion then manually type the numbers you wrote down into the proper X, Y coord boxes. You can also manually drag this, but it's more precise to do the exact same coords.

In my brain, that should do it...? :D

Ok well it looks wrong, so first thing I will do is create a new overlay :) Will get back to you after I Photo Shop it!

Hah, that may be a good option. Photoshop a new overlay that fits the dimensions of the new video, which I guess any square overlay should do the trick. Then get them both sized and positioned and lookin' fine, right in the center of your screen. THEN, the Track Motion should work. :P
