Help with Monetization question

Unfortunately there is no way to determine if your cover is eligible for monetization before you upload it. Please read this:

It is relatively safe to assume that most of the big hits will be eligible for monetization.
For 17k views of cover song most probably you will make around 6 -10$ revenue (but it varies).

Thanks for sharing this with me. I'm reading everything in that link, and it says that it's eligible for monetzation when it says "Monetize my video. This is my cover of a song written by somebody else. Learn more", but that doesn't appear on my video, so I assume I cannot monetize it after all.
Anyway, I will upload screenshots of what I see in my video, cause maybe I'm doing something wrong and you can help me.

When we monetized our song it took around 24 hours before the copyrights claim appeared. Only than you can see the option "Monetize my video. This is my cover of a song written by somebody else. Learn more". If it doesn't appear the system most probably failed to recognize your song as cover or may be the song is not in the YouTube content ID system (not very probable but still possible).
I guess you already have adsense account linked to your YouTube account?

Yes I have adsense, and as you can see in the screens I can put my video monetised right now with ads. So what you are telling me is when I monetize it, 24 hours later I will have an option to put that the video is a cover song written by someone else? That is what I'm not getting

You can monetize videos even without having adsense or having it but not properly linking it to YouTube account (than YouTube will keep 100% of the ads revenue). Anyway going back to the cover song topic - usually 24 -48 hours after uploading and monetizing a song you will receive email like this:

Dear chottomattenet,

Your video "8 year old singing Adele Rolling in the Deep Maya live performance", may have content that is owned or licensed by UMPG Publishing, EMI Music Publishing and UMPI, but it’s still available on YouTube! In some cases, ads may appear next to it.

If this is your performance of a third party song then you can still make money from this video. Click here to change your monetisation settings.

This claim is not penalising your account status. Visit your Copyright Notice page for more details on the policy applied to your video.

Everything you have to do is to click "here" and follow the instructions. You will have all necessary setting available on your YouTube channel now. If you do not receive it it means the song most probably is not part of the content ID system and you can keep all the revenue for yourself. Of course this could change any moment if the copyrights owner decides to apply to the YouTube ID system. Than you either have to remove the song (or get a copyright strike), share the revenue or send all the revenue to the copyrights owner (it all depend on the agreement between copyrights owner and YouTube).
I hope it is more clear now.

So basically, if I monetize the video right now, I will probably receive that e-mail in a few days correct? What should I do if I do not receive anything?

Yes most probably.
If you do not receive it the only thing you can do is just to collect the revenue money and/or contact the copyright owners and send them all or part of the money (I do not think this is a common practice though and in anyway unless you start to generate hundreds of thousands or millions of views with your cover the revenue will be too small).
Sorry but with cover songs you are more or less on the mercy of copyright owners, YouTube and their agreements.
Good luck anyway!

If you don't receive anything, that means it's not in the ContentID database, and you can keep your video monetized. You may find that your video will get claimed one day though, as YouTube still performs ContentID checks on old videos.

Thanks for the tips guys. That is what I will do. I will monetise the video right now. The only fear I have, is that I get any strikes for copywright infringement or something like that, and later on if I want to join a different network, they will not accept me.. I don't know. I will try it. Let's see what happens

a low cpm im assuming would be sorry for being brittish £1 if bad for every 1000 monetisable views so you could excpext 20 pence for 200 monetisable views

So, 2 days have passed since I monetized my 1975 cover song. I did not receive any e-mail from youtube yet. What should I do in this case? Turn monetization off?
