You can crop the frame, but you lose resolution when you do that. GoPro 4 shoots 4K though, so that shouldn't be too much of an issue lol

edit: Also, the mic SUCKS on the GoPro (I have a 3, maybe it's better on the 4?) so it's not exactly ideal as a long-term vlogging solution IMO... I think you can buy external mic attachments but I haven't looked into that at all.

The audio in the 4 is okay, but only if you remove the waterproof housing and using the skeleton housing.

Tim Schmoyer told me he was still having audio issues with the skeleton housing and went with the open frame. I personally use the skeleton housing and noticed a big improvement over the waterproof housing.

500 pounds gives you a BUNCH of leeway. You can go like every other YouTuber and grab a Canon T3i, a prime lens, and a RodeMic (all used of course), which would leave you some extra cash to get a fish eye adapter. Personally though, I'd go for a used GH2.

If you just wanted fish eye, grab a go pro, a gimbal, some housing, and go grab extra food.
