I'm really scared got a brand new MacBook Pro (the retina display one) only had it a few days and it was fine at first quiet and just warm but tonight I've been editing my movie on iMovies and then I went on iTunes for a bit, then it came up with a software update thing, that took like 25 mins. Anyway since then now the MacBook has got really hot and even when I edited some more on my iMovies it went slightly laggy at one point.

The battery is really low and about to die at any point could this be why?
Or is it the update?

I have ordered an external hard drive but it's not arrived yet. Even so it's only been one video and I hardly used it.

The specs are i5 processor with 8GB of ram. And it's the 13inch one.

Help I'm really scared have I broken it?
I feel like crying

Just take a hammer to it hammer smashing is always to answer call tech support they will tell you the same.
Its not broken your just using too much power maybe close some programs it cant handle it all it once.

My MBP gets really hot and the fans gets really loud in the summer. It could be because of the temperature of the room?

If you have new MacBook, Apple gives free, online technical support. You should try it, it's really helpful.

I honestly don't know what you are worried about. What is really wrong?
*Edit*
I'm saying it they way I am because computers get hot and when they get hot even macbook batteries drain, this happens with 99.9% of all electronics even iPhones.

If you're editing videos you can expect a fair bit of heat, my PC blows out really warm air when I'm exporting videos, usually at the end lol If you're really worried best contact Apple, they normally provide really good warranty and support from what I've heard. Otherwise if the macbook isn't heating up during general tasks (iTunes, word processing, browsing web etc...) then no need to worry too much. It's expected for a laptop or PC to heat up when it's under strain.

See if it's maybe a certain program that's making it do it. Maybe something that's running in the background?

During editing it shouldn't be too bad, but it definitely can eat up a lot of power and get very hot when exporting videos, so that might be a thing.

Other than that, just see if it runs fine doing normal tasks such as browsing the internet or watching a video or something. And thus, try to narrow it down to software that might make it go crazy.

And if possible, you could definitely ask Apple support and see if they have any answers.

Having a Macbook Pro myself, it is normal for when I am editing for the laptop to get hot. Also when I am exporting my videos from Final Cut it gets really hot to the point I feel it's burning my skin. It's is really normal because it is using alot of power and the battery goes down fast

If you're editing videos, keep it on AC power. You'll eat through the battery fast due to the processing power that's needed.
