Head shot in thumbnail of girl-gaming videos - thoughts?

It's a creepy world out there, both online and in real life, but what's bad about online is that the creeps can hide behind their usernames and say things they wouldn't say in real life. In one sense, we are all online whether we know it or not. As YouTubers we are careful about letting out information and engaging with strangers, but on the other side we don't want to live our lives in fear all the time. It's a tough and personal decision for the parent, and I suspect it's not going to be any easier as my children get older.

The big thing we're trying to instill with our children is that once you've released a picture, words or video out to the internet, you can't ever really erase it. At this age they aren't allowed any access that would allow them to release their own content, but when the day comes I want them to know exactly what they're in for.

I mean, its sensitive, you are a parent so that's your decision. I wouldn't let my daughter do it personally, but I'm that type of guy, haha.

As for if she's doing it to attract people? Possibly. Look at Kacey-tron on Twitch, her logo is the fricken Brazzers (NSFW DO NOT GOOGLE THAT NAME) logo basically but changed it to her name. Then she has the audacity to say she doesn't do that or dress the way she does to get views/tips/donations.

I personally feel there are plenty of girl gamers who don't try to use the fact that they are female to get attention/viewers. Unfortunately, it happens regardless and a lot of bigger YouTubers that are female seem to do this and "sell themselves" in my book. It disgusts me to be honest. Makes me feel like I'm basically watching soft-core, its ridiculous and I wish YouTube/Twitch cracked down on it.
I meant that I didn't want her to inadvertently attract too much of the wrong type of audience. Her personality is very far from that, actually. She is very shy when it comes to showing herself in any way, and at this point I know she wouldn't do it to attract boys, but she sees her gamer icons doing it (cupquake I. E.) so she thinks it might be a good idea.

As far as Kaceytron goes, that's hilarious that she ripped off the brazzers logo but you know what, she's 24, in charge of her own life, and I have absolutely no problem with her taking advantage of her...assets in marketing herself that way. Nothing wrong with aging to your strengths, you know...putting your best feet forward and whatnot. I think it's funny that the real twitch steamers get do bent out of shape over those "booby streamers" as they seem to be called.

My daughter, at least at this point, does not have even close to the attitude it takes to market herself that way which is fine with me lol. She's growing up too fast as it is. I'm happy that she hasn't talked about dating yet or talked to any boys outside of school. I do hear rumblings about boys she likes every now and then though lol

Well that's good to hear that you are comfortable with where she is and all of that as well. I don't like the "booby streamers" LOL, but mainly because I'd go to a site for that if that's what I was interested in. =P

Difference of opinion, no biggy.

Yeah, I hear you. Sex is interwoven into everything today though. It's even in the games themselves (most girls in games seem to show off their assets. Lara croft I. E.). There is no escaping it lol. To each his own.

I think it's more or less standard rule of thumb that if your face is on screen in the video it should also go in the thumbnail. Whether it's a fact video, something like vsauce for example, or where you're a vlogger, or even just a gamer who facecams - then the face should be there. It helps people immediately recognise the video as yours when seeing it in related videos, or when seeing it in their suggested feed. This is especially useful now because many of us have subscriptions to so many channels that if all we do is colour/theme our thumbnails a certain way, without putting our own face on it, people might not remember who we are from the thumbnails alone.
