HD or not HD

HD or not HD

I would have to say HD as your videos will be crisper to view and people will most likely look at an HD video more than a non-HD video.

Feels kind of pointless to comment at this point, but I'm gonna do it anyway. I think HD is almost a necessity these days. Think of who you're competing with - people with professional-quality cameras, lighting, editing software, and sometimes even a special room they use as their "set."

If you have the option to improve in any of these areas, DO IT!! As @SuckMyDax pointed out, lack of high-quality equipment shouldn't discourage you from making videos, but if you are able to record your videos in HD, you should definitely do it.

I still watch almost all video's in 360p. Too lazy to switch to HD sometimes:p
also a lot of people don't have the bandwidth to play 1080p or even 720p. my monitor doesn't support 1080p and my processor would melt if i tried to record that resolution.

Expectations are getting higher and higher when it comes to YouTube. Definitely don't let lack of equipment keep you from making videos, but if you have the option to do higher quality... I don't know that there would be any downsides.
I think i'm just a little stuck in the past for some things. and personally I can't believe 720p is still considered HD

Well there are 2 things to consider when you are choosing between HD and 480P. First thing is what kind of videos are you making? If you are filming vlogs, or gaming videos then yes you MUST use 1080p or even 4k if possible. But in special cases like educations slide shows with you talking in the background, the highest resolution needed will only be the resolution of your highest quality pictures. So for example if the best photo's you have are only 720P or even 480P then go with that. Lastly you must consider the power of your PC. If you have an older computer then the rendering required to make say a 20 minute video in full 1080 P will take HOURS! So if this is the case you will either have to use lower resolution or plan accordingly for the long rendering times (i would recommend the latter)

Yeah, I think all uploads should be in at least 720p :)

(I'll move this to the strategy / technique forum)
