Having Fraps Issues

If I may ask what type of desktop do you have?

Sure here are my specs:
  • Windows 7 64-bit
  • 16GB RAM
  • 2GB GPU (AMD Radeon 6870)
  • 1.5 TB HDD (57% free)
Also I do defrag daily, run regular diagnostics, have multiple anti-virus, anti-malware, etc. program that I scan and clean my system with.

Don't know if you have stated this yet but what are these problems that are going on with your computer?

Slow, freezes up a lot, occasionally decides to reboot itself without asking me first. It started about a year ago and I upgraded my GPU and RAM and that helped for awhile before getting worse again. I've taken it to a computer shop for diagnostics and because they said they could speed it up (I was disappointed because they didn't do anything I hadn't already tried, and it didn't work - that was $70 wasted).

Fraps for whatever reason during the recording would have a HUGE decrease in FPS. I would be recording everything just fine at a solid 30 fps, and out of nowhere...drops to 3, impossible to play anything, thus ruining my recording.

I switched over to bandicam and haven't had any problems, you might want to get the paid version though to record longer and remove the watermark.

Well I reinstalled, did a test, seemed to work so I set up to record my tutorial and I noticed when I started that something was wrong. I checked the folder where I'm saving my Fraps files in, and instead of recording my browser, it was recording "Adobe CEF Helper" (which I don't have open on my desktop ... it's a backend process that runs for Adobe Creative Cloud. Ugh - I wonder if that could be the problem? But I wonder why because I've had Adobe CC for weeks now and have had no issues until now.

Maybe trying going back to an earlier version of fraps. I don't think it's your graphics card, even though it is old and you should upgrade. Nevertheless it could be that your defraging every day because that's pretty intensive on your pc, but that mostly only takes about an hour at the most. Have you ever thought of replacing your hard drive, maybe it isn't reading and writing as fast as before. Especially if it was a slow one from the beginning ie; one that runs at 5400rpm. I'm not an expert but those are some suggestions of mine. Hope you fix your problem.

What would you recommend as a better graphics card? I have considered replacing my HDD ... I can't decide if I want another HDD or and SSD though. Any recommendations there?

I don't think it's your GPU. It might be your HDD. It's really weird. If your computer freezes a lot and restart by itself. You should open the computer up and see if there is any dust clogged up the fan. How often do you clean your computer? What's the temperature of your computer? Do you hear the fan spinning? I believe Western Digital is a good HDD. I love that brand.

For Graphics cards i recommend Nvidia's because they work better with adobe products as for specific models:
Gtx 760
Gtx 660 ti
Those are good but, also affordable graphics cards.
As for Hdd's and Ssd's I think it would be better more affordable and better just to buy a Hard drive, SSD's are really expensive if you want to have them hold everything for you, but what you could do is buy lik 64gb ssd and just put the necessary stuff in there for example: Windows,Adobe products etc....
I don't know much about HDD's but i hear a good one is the WD velociraptor
