Hauppauge vs Elgato

This thread has been covered multiple times, maybe go read some of those as well. Also, I wouldn't believe anything Sony has to say. They told PS4 users back at the end of 2013, that you would be able to use a capture card in the first month of 2014....Then said it will be next month (feb), and so on.....Don't get your hopes up my friend, Sony has a reputation of letting people down.
all i can think of when i read that is Nintendo's iwata saying please understand for everything. Mistakes happen. just gotta deal with it.

I chose to go the Elgato mainly because of the constant bad name I keep hearing Hauppauge have around themselves.
The Elgato in my opinion looks better, its literally small enough to fit in your pocket.

The software that the Elgato has is by far easier to use compared to the Hauppauge to in my opinion.
And the size of the videos that the Elgato produces is so small its perfect for if you don't have much memory on your computer.
The final selling factor for me was Elgato's "ghost recording" ability. It allows you to record for hours on end and as long as you have the software open you can go back and choose what clip you want to keep.

Hope this helps :)

I have an Elgato HD. So I can only speak for that.

It works very well. The software is easy to use. It works with both Mac and PC. (I have an iMac) It has an HDMI passthrough, which is nice. You can plug in component and composite systems into it, and it upscales resolution to 720p, which is nice.

As for the PS4 update, they are still speaking of it as 'coming soon'.

If you can't wait, search youtube for 'how to record ps4 with Elgato'. There is an HDMI splitter on the market that doesn't pass the HDCP signal through it. So you can record PS4 with a capture card.

Hope this helps.

Ya update 1.7 will be coming within the next few weeks so we'll be able to record. Its odd how it took them so long though
I wouldn't count on that. Sony has been saying that since late November, lol. Plus, you can record with a PS4 if you buy a correct hdmi splitter. I used one to record all my ps4 videos for the past 5 months. Then I upgraded to an Xbox One :)

I dont really want to spend the money knowing it will eventually be out. Maybe if it was earlier on or i would have to wait another year for it then i would buy one.

Understandable. I don't know why Sony would drop the ball on that in the first place, considering capture cards have gotten very popular before PS4 came out.
