Has youtube cleared out inactive accounts again?

Find the Subscribers link, look at the bottom.
You will see how many accounts have been closed.

Are you on the analytics page for Subscribers? It is right at the bottom of the sources list, go to here: https://www.youtube.com/analytics?o=U click subscribers at the left and then scroll to the bottom

I haven't noticed a drop myself. In fact, I have been gaining subscribers at a steady clip lately.

There always is that ebb and flow effect, you might be experiencing that token ebb.
