Growing your Channel

I am by no means an expert in this area but I do want to share something that I have learned over the last 1+ years I have been doing YouTube. I posted something similar as a reply to someones thread but realized not everyone will see it that way so wanted to get it up here. In my opinion the best way to get your content out there is through the YouTube search. This is why you need to have content that will get ranked high on that search. But how you may ask.

My Experience. I started my channel in July of 2012 putting out Gameplay/Let's Play Style videos on a couple of popular video games. Streaming every so often to get people to notice me a bit and sub. Growth was slow at first but I was proud of the accomplishments I made. I then attended Pax East 2013 and got some exclusive footage that pertained to the genre I was making videos for. Lucky me that got noticed by a lot of big youtubers and it basically went viral and made me grow super fast at that point.

However, when I got back I went back to doing videos as normal and the growth basically stopped completely. The reason for this is I went back to doing normal Let's Play style videos. So more recently I have been changing my video style to have more of a shorter reporting/"exclusive"/guide style. This ontop of good titles and tags I have seen the growth return more recently.

One of my friends was able to get footage of TMNT Out of the Shadows at E3 this year recorded from his iphone and he got a lot of views for it, but most of his other videos don't have anywhere near the views.

I did 2 parody videos of The Last of Us and Ducktales Remastered which exploded in hits, but my growth pretty much dropped after that. I just recently released a Call of Duty Ghosts parody that's gotten more traffic than most of my recent videos combined, but nothing huge.

I would say a good way to grow is also making videos that are relevant to what people are currently playing right now.
