Graduating from iMovie. Now what?

I'm quite competent with iMovie now so I thought it would be much easier to move on to Final Cut Pro. However I've heard a lot of negative things about it lately, mostly to do with Apple's move away from serving the Pro-users and targeting average consumers.
I've been looking at YouTube tutorials and the feeling I get so far is that they are basically even.
Do you know if you can use video presets with Premier Pro? Like can I whack a 'Kodak Portra' look on top of my video to make me look all cool and hipster like all the top YouTubers? :)

You can, there's Magic Bullet and a whole ton of video plugins. To be fair, the older version of FCP was decent, but the latest one is as you said dumbed down.

I'm actually kind of in the same boat. The two things that really irk me are not being able to do more than one picture in picture type effect and not being able to easily manipulate motion when it comes to pictures and texts (to spin around and such).

I'm also in need of more 'Titles', etc. It's not bad for free software.. it's quite powerful actually, but it's really meant for casual amateur use, which I've now happily graduated from.
 
If you can get ahold of Final Cut Pro 7 then use that - I use it and it's awesome! - although I think it may have been discontinued? Otherwise, FCPX is meant to be a step-up from iMovie, with similar features but a lot more room to adjust things. I think FCP7 is also industry-standard for short filmmaking, more so than Premiere Pro?
 
I personally use Final Cut X. I really needed a program that allowed me to manipulate (resize) clips and put multiple clips on the frame at the same time. For me, Final Cut was easy to learn coming from iMovie and suits my needs well.
 
When I bought it all those years back it was 499 for the pro version. But the "stupid" program can still edit newer formats. I can't wait to try some 4k footage in the future and see what happens. Sony Vegas 13 Pro is 599 now.
 
I tend to use my phone as my main source of equipment. I have used Time Lapse Pro, Aviary, a voice recorder, and Autodesk Sketchbook. The movie Maker I use is Windows Movie Maker.

I have read that the company Microsoft has undergone a lot of changes. They have made decent camera software for the Nokia Windows phones. It may not be a surprise they would be releasing a video editor.

Windows 10 will also support Flac and some other lossless audio format. It's a big win for Youtubers.
