Graduating from iMovie. Now what?

So I maxed out the capabilities of iMovie, squeezed out every last drop of juice from it. I'm now looking to move on to the big leagues with something more powerful. I've naturally been looking at Final Cut Pro, but also Screenflow and Adobe's offerings.

Any thoughts on which is the best option for editing short amateur films. I'd like to e able to do multiple video-in-video [not just 1 like in iMovie] for example.

I personally don't like the After Effects Timeline, and compared to Final cut; rendering times are an absolute joke!
Final cut renders as you edit, I looooove it
After effects would be great as you can make your own effects then reuse them and sell them on!
But theres nothing stopping you using final cut and finding free effects already

Even if I get Final Cut pro first, I can see myself getting After effects when I'm competent enough. I just youtubed some AE vids of morphing effects etc. Goodness me, I could do a lot with that.

If you want to move to the big leagues you can also go to AVID. It's pretty much an industry standard for the real professionals. I know of one big YouTuber that use it. Only go this route if you have some money to burn.

I'm quite competent with iMovie now so I thought it would be much easier to move on to Final Cut Pro. However I've heard a lot of negative things about it lately, mostly to do with Apple's move away from serving the Pro-users and targeting average consumers.
I've been looking at YouTube tutorials and the feeling I get so far is that they are basically even.
Do you know if you can use video presets with Premier Pro? Like can I whack a 'Kodak Portra' look on top of my video to make me look all cool and hipster like all the top YouTubers?
