I notice you can also reply directly to the comment via the bell icon and it will update on the video page itself - so no more having to go to the video page to reply to comments etc?

Yeah it actually saves you a few clicks. I also like that on the video page conversations are sorted as threads now.
 
RIP YouTube inbox 2006-2013. It shall be missed (if it indeed does end up being removed all together). We shared some great times together, and you provided me with much joy. I'll never forget the conversations you let me have with my favorite YouTubers, and all of the spam you fed me from people wanting me to check out their videos for some unknown reason. >_>

Anyway... I'll always love you, inbox. It's just time we go our separate ways. Thank you for the memories. However now... I must move on, to the Google+ bell thing. I hope you understand.

Last night without warning I was blind sighted me with there new comment system and I was instantly worried. This does not seem to predict good things for YouTube. First this may be a glitch but most comments don't have a reply or like dislike features currently I can't figure out how to respond to comments on my own videos. They also seem to have removed the top comment feature making the whole comment section the top comment system main idea i saw behind the pre release notes was to promote conversation but from what i see it's trying to stop it.
 
Actually, so far the system has been kind to me. I've been getting timely notifications by email if someone comments on my videos! I'm not entirely hating this - but then again, I embraced the Geeplus long ago.

I hope this doesn't mess up my SEO.
 
It also seems to have stopped counting comments - at least for me and the ones I'm receiving on my new video.
