Good quality inexpensive mic?

I need a mic, preferably a stand-alone mic (or if you know how to get it to work with my camera..)
I can't seem to find any inputs to put a mic into on my camera, So I am wondering if there are any good stand alone mics or something of that nature that I can use outside of the camera but sinc the sound up while editing...

Sorry if this made sense, But hopefully it does!

If you're looking at using them at your desk? There are quite a few decent USB mics. I've heard good things about the CAD U37, the Samson Meteor did me pretty well, the Blue gets a lot of suggestions but I'm really not the biggest fan of Blue.

What kind of camera and what kind of videos will you be doing?

As for syncing, it's a fairly easy process. Just set the mic to record and then snap your fingers in front of the mic as soon as you hit record on the camera. Then you can take your time getting ready and such, but the recording is already synced by just cutting the audio track at the "snap". It is certainly ideal to have it plugged into the camera if that is possible though. If you're using a DSLR, maybe trading the camera body out for one with a mic input would be a reasonable idea. But on the mic side, we can't really give valuable advice without knowing what kind of vids you're recording.

Or you can just leave the camera's mic recording and then sync up the two audio tracks and remove the one from the camera in the your editor. Makes things pretty simple, really.

The Snowball is okay, but Blue mics are a little difficult to work with. They're very finicky and far more sensitive than any mic should be. You have to drop the gain in Windows to nearly zero.
