Good or Bad idea to hide your face/identity?

I was just sittin here watchin tv when I started thinking about my channel and its design/theme.

Currently I play the role of a Hard Drive and my subs are my Programs. Since its a kind of digital matrix'y relationship i thought i would go ahead and wear my mask i made. It serves as my perminent face for my viewers. But I was wondering just now if hiding my face might be a bad idea.

Ive come up with some pros/cons about it.

PRO:
  • Unique design, its not just a standard holoween mask bought from any store, I made this myself and its something you dont see offten or at all (the mask is my forum pic)
  • It adds mystery to the channel.
  • It puts a unique face to my channel, instead of just the standard face you get me and my mask...its different, its new.
  • I can change my mask to fit different personalities or roles, or just for the heck of it!Changing the mask i can add a bit more of acting to the theme, morphing my appearance into whatever i want.
CON:
  • People might not like not being able to see who I really am, people in general want to assiociate a face to a person and a mask might not do it for some people.
  • Might limit the type of viewers i get? not sure on that one
  • Could be just a tad over the top.

I have a hard time coming up with cons...

I like playing the role of the Hard Drive, and that we live in a digital world. The hard drive governs everything programs do, can change the world as it sees fit ect.

I dont hide my name, i do hide my last name though just to keep myself that much more hidden (if people knew my last name they could look me up on facebook and whatnot) But i also havnt told my subs to NOT look for me, i dont care if someone finds out what i really look like or finds out my last name, that WILL happen eventually, I just like the game I got going on right now.

So what do you think? Could it do more damage that it can good?

- On a side note, the masks I make will also serve as something extra for my channel. I plan to (keyword is plan) have some giveaways for some of them if i get quite a bit made. Or even sell them...but that would be not for a looooooooooooong time, im still an amatuer at making them so I'll wait. But giveaways might really interest people.

Ilike the idea of hiding your face, if the theme of your channel fits it. Though perhaps just some of your face (like a Phantom of the Opera or Venetian style mask) would make it more personable :)people these days like to know who they're looking at, so to speak.
 
Do you have a facebook? and if you show your face their no need to hide your face in your videos when the only thing someone has to do is search facebook or google and see what you look like. Derekrants tried to use a mask to hide his face and they found out what he looked like name and other things.
 
I have 2 facebooks, one personal, one for the channel. Im not really that worried that people will findout who i am. If they want to thats fine, i'll still keep on playing this role.
