Good, Free, Video Editor? (And Livestreamer?)

CommMatt

Posting Mad!
So, for all my videos I've been using Windows Live Movie Maker.
While it's a nice all-rounder, I feel like with the step-up in ability to make videos (When I get a new computer) I will also need a new video editor.

I find WLMV's inability to save to anything but WMV (unless I'm missing something?) kind of a limitation. I mean, the raw video file from my recorder looks (.avi) better than the edited one (.wmv)
The render speed is excellent (Running a 2.5GHz CPU, mind you) and I'm able to save a 20 min video in 5 minutes at 720p, buuuut this comes with the lower quality hand off. I'd gladly hand off render time for higher quality.

Not going to go into a rant about WLMV, it's just kind of limiting.

Does anyone know of a good editor that's free?

Thanks!

EDIT: ALSO! Does anyone know a nice (free) livestreamer?

EDIT2: List of suggested programs are listed below for convenience (For you and me)
  1. VSDC
  2. OBS
  3. XSplit
  4. DaVinci Resolve

i know one its called VSDC free video editor. it offers a non-linder code so it works almost like sony vegas but only more free.

Hey,
If you're passionate about YouTube, use paid software. If you don't have a source of income, ask for something like Pinnacle or Sony Vegas to start you off for Christmas or something. Free software usually isn't the best way to go, but I'm sure some will disagree.

In addition to this, some good free livestream software is XSplit.

Thanks! I'll try it out!
obs is good for livestreaming :)
I think I'm going to dive into OBS when I get my new computer (currently it doesn't like DirectX 9.0c apparently o_o )
Thanks!

I would use paid software - but, sadly, there's a few things that prevent me from doing so.
For now, I'm using a laptop that doesn't have the power to run paid software. Free software is usually small and lightweight, which allow me to run it. Then there's the cost: My family/friends don't exactly have $600 that's spendable, even for Christmas.
I've heard nice things about XSplit... I'll have to check it out and compare it with OBS when I get my new desktop.

I have not tried it myself, but davinci resolve sounds great :)
Looked it up, and it does sound great. Sadly it looks like it needs a beefier computer than just Intel HD Graphics. Will test it with new desktop.
Thanks!
