Going after youtube full-time

Anybody on this forum ever make the decision to stop going to school and do videos? Specifically close to college graduation when should be looking for a job etc. Tough call

Unless you already have a big following and are making enough to live on, I certainly wouldn't take that risk.

I wouldn't do it before graduating college because what happens if you never get a high following and barely have enough to make a living out of it? So like Kleineganz said, if you don't have a big following is not worth taking the risk.

No. Just no. Even if you made enough to live on, Youtube should always be a side job. Look at what happened to the people affected by the new claim rule. Youtube can just one day decide to shut down ALL gaming videos, and there goes your income. Don't live off just on something as fickle and unpredictable like Youtube.

Don't even think about it. Who knows where YouTube will be in 5 years, if you quit and YouTube suddenly dies, you've got nothing to fall back upon. If you have a degree or something, you've got a bit of a net.

Apologies in advance - this is going to sound harsh, and me brand new on the forum - but be asuured it's meant in the most helpful context.....

1. An education lasts a lifetime. Once you've got the paper, you've got it for life. It's always worth completing.

2. Throw away x-years of time and monetary investment just a few months away from completion for something like Youtube? Verges on insane.

3. Youtube will still be there in a few months once the education is completed.

4. Imagine if one day - perhaps not too far away! - you have to explain to a recruiter in a job interview that you're looking for a job, but no you don't have that college diploma because you dropped out just a few months before completion to chase after Youtube stardom - hopefully they're polite enough to not be laughing as they show you the door.

I have a full time job and do youtube full time. Makes for a very busy schedule, but I enjoy doing it :)

I wouldn't bet the farm unless you have a large following. Also the landscape is changing and it may not be what it is in a couple years.

Don't quit your day job unless you have no other choice. Same rules as starting a business.
