Giveaways?

What do you think of giveaways on YouTube? I was just wondering because I know a lot of YouTubers in my field do them relatively often.
 
Many YouTubers do this, all they ask for is SHARE A VIDEO with a HASH TAGS :D
So it's a great idea of increasing the fan base :D
 
Seems like a good idea to get people engaged and for them to keep tabs on you in case you do something similar in the future. I'm not sure what would be best for making it beneficial for you though (asking them to comment, like, subscribe or share) that might be something you'd have to consider research. But definitely a good idea for exposure!
 
The problem with giveaways is that it can attract a lot of selfish viewers. They will do whatever you say so like, comment, subscribe and share but it's not real engagement. I've seen it multiple times where that Youtuber will have everyone sucking up to them to get a shoutout or a giveaway.

I want to do a giveaway eventually (probably a big milestone a million years down the line) but I'm going to think long and hard about how to do it and who's eligible for it.
 
It has its pros and cons:

Pros:
- You can gain a lot of new subscribers.
- It's a little gift for one or more subscribers.
- More exposure :)

Cons:
- It might just attract people who just want the gift you give away. So there's a chance that if they lose (or even win) they'll just unsubscribe again.

But I think it's worth it but I wouldn't recommend it for really small channels (so like below 100 or something like that). I would do one at a milestone so for instance if you reach 500, 1k, 100k subs or something like that :)
 
BE CAREFUL.
YouTube's OFFICIAL terms and conditions have VERY strict rules.
Part of their terms and conditions state that YouTube can and will without question, delete your channel after your giveaway has ended.

YouTube class "Giveaway's" in the same genre as "Contests" and any other names you can think of.

Based on a lot of youtubers, i heard that you can no longer make giveaways on youtube? Is that true?
 
Giveaways bother me. It's essentially purchasing shares and views and it's attracting people who care less about watching your videos and more about just getting whatever it is you're giving away.

I won't lie, I think it'd be fun and I really do enjoy giving stuff away (I do it on Reddit a lot), but I'm not at all confident that the end result would be a positive. How many people would just subscribe and then watch for giveaway videos without watching anything else?
 
I think there is a fine line to walk with them. Giving back to the community is great, but bribing folks to subscribe usually turns out in a lot of inactive subscribers.

That's essentially my thinking. Giveaways are a great way to give BACK to your subscribers, but using them to "spread the word" feels like you'd just have a lot of people who only click on a video if it says "GIVEAWAY"
