Gay Youtubers??

You can try to say it's my fault I perceive them this way and go you if you see it that way, but I feel like it doesn't matter what the subject matter is, when you keep bringing it up, you start associating people with what they keep talking about/flaunting.

They're still regular people whether they mention their sexuality or not.

I feel like most of us do the same thing. But there are plenty of openly LGBTQ+ YouTubers who you might not associate with their sexuality such as Hannah Hart, I connect her to Drunk Kitchen stuff. People who present themselves as openly gay/conservative/christian/vegan don't all flaunt that part of themselves but those who choose to make that the most memorable part of their personality/online self obviously want to be remembered in that way. So that's why when I think of Davey Wavey, I think of his sexuality.

In some cases, yes. But, then again I wouldn't compare someones sexuality to 'funky toe socks' and choosing to be a Mormon. Let's take YouTubers out of it for a second. Yes, if you have someone that is proud of their sexuality, there ARE people that will only associate them with that and as Symph said see them as 'just that gay guy/girl'...but that isn't their fault. Just as, just because I have brown skin, people will associate me as just 'that black guy' isn't my fault. If you want to place implications on people based on things they can't help that's on you.

I can't hide me being a person of color just as people can't hide their sexuality. And they shouldn't have to hide anything or conform to something they're not out of fear they won't be perceived as "normal" or "regular people" to others (usually people who aren't 'minorities') who choose to only associate them with things they have no control over because they don't look, act, or sound the same as they do.

I agree with everything you're saying, minorities shouldn't have to hide their real selves in order to fit society. If close minded people were able to just change their thinking patterns in order to accept all people, then the world would lose a lot of its hatred. Comparing sexuality to any act with the element of choice was a mistake. But I do think that the way we present ourselves has a lot to do with the way we're perceived, I'm not saying that's right but that's just how the majority of us seem to function.

There is no one type of gay person in the same way that there is no one type of straight person but somehow we've labelled all gay men as effeminate and all gay women as butch. It's not fair and we can all help to try and change this but it won't happen overnight.

We are a gay couple who make you tube videos! not that we are actually in our videos so no one would know but we fully support LGBT videos on You Tube and watch a few web series about the subject!
