Gaming/product reviews

Posting Mad!
Has anyone on here ever approached someone and asked for a review copy of something?

I am only a small Youtuber, but I read an article about a game reviewer who wrote to a lot of companies, being overly nice (giving them word BJ's is how he put it) and asking for review copies of games when he started out. He was surprised to find out how many they sent out. He said the main thing is to not do it for the free game, but as a professional tool for your job at hand. He said it didn't matter about your size but more on the potential your video could be found, eg Youtube or a website is better than a local newspaper. So I have decided I am going to do the same, because what could it hurt.

I do not know if any other product works like this or if I am hitting my head against a brick wall, but I would like to know if anyone has had the cheek to do this and if it worked.

People are always looking for free publicity. Except Nintendo. So go for it! If the production values are high enough websites will take your work, if they can't do it themselves. That makes you a "writer " too. It's happening to me so you could too

Not sure how well it would work out since you are starting out and they'll definitely factor that in. But it definitely doesn't hurt to try, even if you send messages to say 20 of them and 1 say yes that is still a pretty big win. Sounds like what that guy did. Cast your net out there and hope for the best :)

So just thought I would show that this actually works to encourage other people to do the same. I sent out my first email last night and actually got a response on a game that comes out today. Only a small indie game that looks really fun, but still my first review code and I am genuinely excited about it.

I do reviews of PC gaming peripherals. My channel is very young. Only 2 months old. I wrote every company I could and actually got a review partnership. So I say go for it. Worst thing that can happen is they say no.

Just to let people know I've got two games off two emails so far. My review of the first game got him to to retweet my review for all his followers which gained me a few subs. I won't bump this again unless my email that I wrote to ea works (massive long shot but thought I'd try it) but writing to indie developers definitely has a high success rate or I've been extremely lucky. I would legitimately recommend this to any reviewer or just someone who plays indie games on their channel regardless of your size. Imagine if I manage to be the first to review the next minecraft! All I've literally done is look up upcoming games on steam, clicked their website link and found contact email through there and sent them a nice email explaining how I'd love to review their game to help us both grow and be seen.

Sorry for bumping this twice but I thought it would be better than a new thread and it actually works so is a good tip for up and coming youtubers.[DOUBLEPOST=1464372928,1464357132][/DOUBLEPOST]

What's a review partnership entail? I've just seen this.

Basically they are going to send me their next wave of products a short time before they are released. I will then make videos featuring the product on my channel. Mice, Keyboards, etc... It's a mutual business relationship because they get cheap advertising and I get more content for my channel. The free stuff is a plus too :P

Who's that with if you don't mind me asking?[DOUBLEPOST=1464464225][/DOUBLEPOST]Not that I want to jump on. I'd be terrible with product reviews it's just a good way to gauge where i aim at

Yep! I've done this before. Plenty of times actually. Working on getting a few videos done atm that are based on review copies. Up until this point, I've done Chasm, Highlands, (got a key for Randal's Monday I never used.) and so forth.

It's pretty sweet. I like working with devs.

It's with VicTsing the company that makes Tomoko Gaming keyboards a mice. It's a smaller company out of china. But hey, you gotta start somewhere. I have talked with a few more known companies but they require a higher sub count than I have currently. I am gaining subs each day though. I am hoping to start a partnership with a bigger company in the future.
