Frustrated with social media/branding.

hey guys.

Recently I've been picking up some equipment and stuff looking to make a channel. I have some pretty good ideas of content I'd like to put out there, and I genuinely feel like I'd actually enjoy the video making/editing process. I feel like that's important rather than the money aspect some people seek.

However..

I actually like Youtubes change to custom URLs, as it gives incentive for people to work for the channel name they want. I personally have one I'm lookin forward to, but it seems like facebook/Twitter/Instagram, every permutation of the name I want is gone. The people are inactive, or spam accounts :( it's so frustrating when I would love to have the name.

Anyone else have problems with finding the perfect name?

Never did; I wasn't able to get "Faptain" (except on Facebook), so I simply settled for "FaptainsLog" (Play on Captains Log) on all of my accounts and that was it.

Sometimes it's about luck rather then originality.

I'd say your is a combination of both. I actually like that you were able to put a twist on it and it worked out for you.

I assume then, you got your channel before the 500 sub requirement?

Our name came from my girlfriend shouting it out when I asked if she could think of a good name. She was looking through a camera at the time! Luckily we got the URL before YouTube changed and I'm glad because I rather like our name personally!

That's sadly the internet in general. Anything that has been online for a decent amount of time is going to have all the common and "good" names taken. Just try to think outside the box and see what you can come up with. Good luck!:thumbsup2:

True.

I mean I understand that there is an amazing amount of people that sign up for Twitter everyday, and the amount of information there is incredible, but I wish they had a way to appeal this kind of stuff.

There's already guidelines about staying active on the site, I just wish accounts that were like 2 years old with no activity couldn't be sat on.

Yeah, January last year I believe. Not quite sure.

But I'm reasonably close either way, I wouldn't have been far off.

That seems fair. If an account is inactive for a year, the name get's put back into the mix. Then again, the owners of the sites might not care enough to go through the trouble of creating a program to check that kinda stuff. Would be nice though.
