Friend Gained 50 Subs Last Night, Did He 'Cheat'?

Just a little back story. My friend has always viewed YouTube as a competition against me. No idea why, it's meant to be fun!
He created a vlogging channel about a year ago and had a steady subscriber increase pace.

Over the last month he stopped making videos due to being busy, yesterday he finally uploaded a video.

And suddenly over night, he gained over 50 subscribers! Going from 131 to around 187..Insane!

Bearing in mind his videos only get around 20-30 views, rarely going over and very rarely reaching over 100. (His latest having about 25)

My question is, do you think he cheated, using a sub-sub technique or website?

Hes always hated not having subscribers and hates it when I have more. Which is strange because at the end of the day, it will hurt his channel!

I think some sort of ritual must have happened.

Has your friends eyes been rolling in the back of his head?
And or
Has he been speaking in tongue?

There must be something going on here.

It does look weird dosnt it. I mean having an average view of 25ish per a video but landing 50 subs doesn't add up.

Another possibility is YouTube constantly has problems with data.
We've all seen a message saying data will not be available right now.

Possibly they added 59 missing subs to his tally that were never recorded properly???

If that actually worked, there'd be a ton of black candles and chalk circles on a lot of YouTuber's floors, LOL.

I'm thinking either data glitch, or he asked for a lot of sub for subs, or he sent his subscribe link to a lot of people directly.

Nope he couldve just went on a commenting streak
This, probably a bit of `sub 4 sub` which will you get a lot of new subscribers quickly, but they are not usually good subscribers, and will probably damage his channel and video ratings more than help. as they rarely watch the videos, and if they do it`ll be for 10 seconds - long enough to paste "Awesome video" in a comment and leave.

Oh Wow can you get him to do be a shoutout? Obvious YouTube sensation in the making.

But no seriously it was more than likely luck or he went posting everywhere he could as soon as he uploaded the video asking for subs.

Does the new video he posted have a lot of views? The highest views to sub ratio I've ever seen is 10%, so if the video has over 500 views it's plausible. If it doesn't, he probably did something shady like sub 4 sub.
