Fraps or Camstasia?

I can also throw in the DXTory :) Can record in many codecs (some are lossless, some are not) and you can record multiple audio lines (you and game separately) :)
 
another OBS lover here. I wanted to capture my drawing and obs does it perfectly, I can also make templates And put my icon on the screen, And the file sizes are definitely the best.

Never heard of DXTory. I'm not that tech savvy so I have no idea what codecs are for :D Although the idea of recording multiple audio lines is interesting

Basically codec is how your software encodes and decodes (record and play) some digital files as music or videos :) (for better explanation I recommend Wiki or something else :D )

And DXTory gives you ability to record in FRAPS codec, MP4 codec (H264), different AVI codecs, etc :) Some files then will be large like fraps (but easier to record because of less strain on your PC), some will be much smaller (but will require more horsepower for compression) - best thing is you can make that choice :)

I'm now considering OBS Studio because of you guys recommending it! You can put your icon on the screen? That's handy! Hmmm, I might use OBS instead of Fraps. You won me at "the file sizes are definitely the best" :laugh2:

yeah you just add it to sources. you can have a source that is your gaming window, one that is your cam, one that is your icon, or any other graphics and even animated gifs that you want, and you can easily move them around and resize them as you wish
 
A lot of people I know have trouble with Fraps. And also the file sizes are massive! It's as huge as the Leaning Tower of Piza and the file is still bigger. I recommend Camtasia.

I never realized how the big the file sizes of Fraps is. I did recently encountered a problem with Fraps while I was recording a game. This is why I'm looking for some other application to replace it. I tried Camstasia before but I think I gave up on it 'cause it was complicated for me, at that time
 
As someone who has tried about 10 different recorders... OBS. FRAPS seemed to have troubles actually using the files in Premiere Pro, while others like Camstudio and Camtasia, seemed to be glitchy as anything. OBS has been pretty good, and it pretty much made my water temple theory possible... haha it makes me feel fine to just pop open a game to get some footage, whereas FRAPS made it feel like a chore...
