Quite aware of that =P I have 10TB of drives that I record to. And multiple different drives for editing. I edit it down quite quickly so no worries on filling drives xDSadly there aren't many free options that work well... of course with the exception of Nvidia ShadowPlay which requires a Nvidia GPU. If you don't like OBS and you don't like FRAPS' file sizes the next thing to try would be MSI Afterburner. MSI Afterburner works well for most games, I tend to use DXtory (Costs about $50-60AUD) whenever I can keep a stable 60fps otherwise I either use ShadowPlay or MSI Afterburner.[DOUBLEPOST=1441084932,1441084696][/DOUBLEPOST]
Lossless is only a good idea if you know you have the storage space required for the file output, if you don't then you should probably use something like x264 codec which does the same sort of thing but you have more control over the bitrate... remember bitrate = better quality.
If your source bitrate is say 14,000kbps and your export video is 20,000kbps you may see less quality or video corruption (artifacts). Either way the best free option with low file size for bitrate is ShadowPlay... I have calculated the math behind it and I have no idea how Nvidia can retain a 50MBps bitrate with a fraction of the file size actually needed to sustain that...? Magic i'd say.
I was just watching a video on this program. I currently use shadowplay for any recording (i have a small games channel but do not keep up with it). Anyway, my daughter is starting her gaming channel and I just want her to have a smooth experience like with shadowplay, but also the ability to facecam in-app (to avoid extra editing). Is Mirillis Action really smooth? I do not get hardly any lag ever with shadowplay (depending on the bitrate I choose, of course).Mirillis Action, it has the friendly interface from Fraps but the functions and more from Dxtory.
With the right settings in Action it is very smooth, not better than Shadowplay though. The reduction of FPS is better than Fraps, cause Action has a li'll bit of FPS reduction which would be around around the 5 fps, it depends on the game though but 5 is mostly the max.I was just watching a video on this program. I've used shadowplay since I first got my Nvidia card and the lack of lag is unbelievable. I had a few problems with Windows ten but otherwise it has been great. The only thing I don't like is that facecam only works for live streaming and not for regular game capture. That's why I'm looking into mirillis action. It has integrated ability for two Webcam. Of course, this can be handled easily in post, but it's pretty efficient to have it done in-app (especially since I'm basically just concerned with my daughter's new channel. The lens editing she has to do the better).Try Shadowplay!
