Formula for sketch comedy.

My humor can be topical, but then it's only gonna be funny if I'm not trying to make it funny. If I set out to do something funny it's gonna be randomness, if I'm just talking about a subject passionately it often times just gets funny. And I've noticed can be way funnier than my comedy vlogs.
The thing is, blunt honesty is out of place in our society, so our brains file it as funny. If one is talking about something passionately, one tends to be blunt and honest. If one's talent is typically to be funny, something considered out of place anyhow is also framed by what one does on a regular basis.

I think too much though.

Dude that's so true. I made this vlog where I was SO MAD, SO freaking mad, and making REAL points, and everyone I show it to loves the points I make and don't deny that what I'm saying is true, but they all just laugh their butts off cause they're just not used to seeing that level of "blunt honesty" like you said lol

It's really most of what standup comedians do nowadays. It's mostly rants where they find opportunities to squeeze absurdity in.

I'm not really that into standup, though, because it's usually the same material over and over. Still, same theory kind of.

Which video was it, I want to watch. haha

It's actually not public yet, it's coming when I get back from hiatus. When I get it up I'll pm it to you :)

I've came up with a format/formula for skits (what I typically make) to make it both accessible and have some kind of subtle point.

1. Broad humor moment (lowbrow humor but not blue) :15 max
2. Exposition (what you're referencing or talking about in one or two lines) :15 max
3. Exploration/Bread and Butter (a few different angles on what you're talking about, with broad humor laced in) :30 - 1:30
4. Twist (this is where subtlety can be used, surprise and confuse people) :30 max
5. Wrap up (drive the point home, end on something big and memorable if possible) :30 max

These rules can obviously be broken but the things I have made lately which have been getting a favorable response have pretty much followed this, though I've kind of only realized it just now looking back on them - in fact that is how I would say I stumbled on this.

Any thoughts?

Watched your videos bro! They are so funny! (Great guide BTW)Do you think you could give a few more tips tho? (As far as getting ideas for skits)

Also, I wanted to know how you made your outro or who made it for you, I would really like to have one similar to yours :D

I made my outro and intro... I did all my branding!

Anyway, I come up with ideas in a lot of different ways. In the shower, while browsing twitter, while reading articles, etc.

The thing you need to understand is that everything is material. All information is unrefined comedy. The only difference between a news article (or a thing you notice, or a thing your family does that bugs you, or anything) and comedy is perspective.

Everything you see is potentially comedy.

Now, the execution of an idea is another step, but literally everything is an idea. It just has to be refined.
