For those people that use a Camera to record themselves

So I feel like recording on a laptop or with a webcam has the advantage of being able to see yourself as you talk, do cameras these days have a similar feature? Like you can connect it to the computer as you record, or even a mini screen on the camera itself that you can turn around to see yourself? If not, is it as hard as I imagine it transitioning from recording from a webcam to a real camera? I ask this because I plan on getting one eventually and would just like to prepare myself accordingly.

Most camcorders have a flip out screen that you can rotate around. Also a few DSLRs on the market have a back screen that flips out so you can watch as well. Or you could always get an EVF.

Canon DSLR's have a cable and software that comes with the camera and lets you use your laptop as a LCD screen to see. It's called "remote shooting".

I use my cell phone most of the the time when recording vlogs. Its full hd but I dont have the screen to see myself. I just have to watch the vid when I finish recording. Lol my dslr has the screen but I never have it face me when im recording. I flip it towards me focus the picture then turn it arkund again. I do this because when I record I would sometimes look at the screen Instead of looking directly in the camera. When I see my eyes move away from the camera it feels like I'm disconnecting from the audience. Like breaking eye contact. I find it better practice to not have a screen.

Hmm that's true as well, I'm usually looking at the screen rather than the camera too actually. Do you use some sort of a stand or something for your phone? I think I'll try recording with my phone and see how that goes, since it's HD as well.

I luckily don't have to have the camera pointing at me, just at a whiteboard. If I was to have it facing my face, I would use the pull out screen on my camera or set up an external monitor behind the camera.

Actually the vlogs I do with my phone are when I'm at work. If I ever need to be hands free I just find something thats eye level and prop it up on it like a bookshelf or such. For home use I use my dslr. I flip the screen towards me focus the camera on my face and then flip it back around and press record.

I have also placed my phone on top of the tripod before to do some more shooting when my cameras card gets full and I don't feel like transferring the footage to my computer at the moment.

I find the flip screen to be enough for me. I had to really be aware of looking into the lens rather than at myself on the screen for a while, but it's not a problem anymore.
