Final Cut Pro X help needed!

Hi!
I'm having a bit of an editing crisis. I was able to use Premiere Pro (+ the rest of the Adobe Creative Cloud) for the past year because of a student discount. Now I can't afford it anymore and have to find a new editing program. (I have a MacBook.) I'm currently testing Final Cut Pro X but it reminds me of iMovie and even has some of the functions I liked least about iMovie. I haven't found a good tutorial for the software, yet, and I would appreciate if you could send me links to tutorials that helped you! (Also, are there other editing softwares that are at least as good as Final Cut but still affordable?)
Thank you for your help!

Selecting the parts of the footage I want to include in my project, the tools, the fact that I don't know how I can leave a gap between clips. (I haven't even tried out the title or effect tools, yet.)

FCPX can be quite tricky to figure out, it honestly just takes time. The way that I learned to use it was literally by clicking buttons and seeing what they did lol. Anytime I came across something I didn't know how to do, I'd google it and more often than not there'd be someone who knew how to do it. Once you get used to it's functionality, it's a really good program with LOTS of cool features :)

As for leaving a space between clips, do you just want a black screen between clips? If so, there's a few ways to do it. 1 simple solution would be to go into the titles section, pick any title with a black screen, and get rid of the text. Then you can change the length of that clip to match however long you want the gap to be.

Why don't you just imovie and see how you like it. You might not need the features Final Cut has and it would save you some money.

Oh man. Normally the learning curve from Final cut pro x to premiere is a nasty switch. I can only imagine downgrading to it.

Keep in mind Final Cut Pro X was designed to be more user friendly and easier to use for new editors. They took a lot of the options from imovie and incorporated it into it.
It is designed to be more mobile based now. If you want something closer to premiere go back a version. Final Cut Pro 7 is a lot closer to premiere. It is a tad different and takes a step or two more to do most basic things. But the learning curve won't be as extreme.

Hope this helps!

I worked with iMovie for years before I upgraded to Premiere Pro and I definitely need the features this software had. Going back to iMovie would be the ultimate downgrade and I'm trying to improve the quality of my videos. :)

Oh makes sense. Maybe you can get Premiere Pro. It would cost about the same as Final Cut and unlike the Cloud you can keep it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/CS6-Premier...mage_Video_Audio_Software&hash=item2ed9454fba

Or you could try Adobe Premiere Elements, but that might be a downgrade.
