Filming is a dying trend on youtube...

hey guys i wanted to bring this to light because i have noticed this recently.
now film can be taken in many ways or forms, what i am talking about is where you get a camera, a script, a crew, a cast, and ALOT of hard work put into a 5 minute video.
i know i try really hard to make the most out of my videos, and i try even harder to get the attention it deserves.
it seems to me, and it may just be me, that film making has lost its touch to anyone outside of movie making.
all it seems nowadays is vlogs, or gaming. nothing wrong with that but what happened to short films?
am i wrong on this?
i would appreciate if some other film makers could comment on this also.

It's a shame too, because I love watching stuff like that. I love going through @brodielawrence's channel because he makes like, sketches and stuff like that. Not exactly short films, but still. They're pretty cool and they're not just a basic vlog or a gaming video like you mention, there's a lot of work there and it shows.

I think a lot of people stay away from stuff like short films because it does require a lot of work, and a lot of creativity to put together and whatnot. It's a lot simpler to take your webcam and talk to it for a little while, edit, and then you have your new video right there. Same for gaming videos, just pick a game, commentary, edit and touch up, and then you're done. A lot of people probably see making short films as taking too long to make, and maybe even not worth the effort in the end.

There was another user here... I forgot his username though. >_< He made some really awesome short film kind of videos on YouTube, like you'd think they were professionally done in a movie studio, they were amazing.

i mean i wish i could get popular this way since i live and breath film, but since it isnt a popular idea and its not easy to come out with regular content, there really isnt much of a chance for film makers anymore since there are already big names establishes :/
 
I think films take too long to make. People want content quickly, they don't want to wait three weeks for your next video because by that time, people already forgot about you. Everyone knows, one of the best way to build an audience is to upload on a schedule and that is hard to do if you are making short films, especially if you have a life outside of YouTube and YouTube is not your full time job.
