When I have ideas for videos, I usually have a full concise idea for what I want to do. That includes actual video content, editing and music. But I always find myself being limited on what I can do because of all of the copyright rules on music with YouTube. For example: I listen to a semi big reggae group called Rebelution. One of their songs would have went perfect with a video that I wanted to do, but I couldn't get permission from them to use the song so I was stuck. Not because they said no, but because they plain didn't respond, which I can understand. (It's not even mainly them, but their record company.)

So I wanted to know if anyone else has been affected by the limitations in their own videos, and how you overcame them. For anyone who has had a big song used legally in their video, how did you get permission or who did you contact?

Of course big companies don't bother with small Youtubers and big Youtubers don't have problems with copyright anyway, cause Youtube just let's them do whatever the hell they want^^

If you need royalty free musivc, you'll find plenty on my channel :) Also if you want I can produce something customized for you!

Well the only way to go around this problem is buy the license for this stuff...most musicians aren't interested in just simply giving permission to any YouTuber to use their song(s).
There are several sites (like shutterstock for pictures) where you can buy the music and get the official license of the artist which can even give you the permission to monetize a video with the song in it.
So there's that...

Unfortunately I haven't really found a way around this. It used to bother me a fair bit, but now I just make due with using royalty free music. I do agree with you though, it sure can be annoying at times!

Yeah, there are a few songs that I know I would love to use on my videos. And it pains me that I can't.

But I just get on with it. I search high and low for the perfect music, either full song or loop. I change the music on my videos every so often because I come across something better.

I think if you stay open minded, you'll always find some else that can work almost, or just as well :)

Good answer, couldn't have put it better myself :)
