Feedback, tips please...

Hi, would like some genuine feedback.

Started 3-4 weeks ago now, have a lot more planned but shot up to 10 subs in almost a week and nothing has changed since. Even did a video today on a big topic with Trump/Clinton.

My channel is a bit of mix, still sorting proper days of the week for certain videos. Series on my trip, at the moment its all pre-trip stuff so will include some reviews on equipment i used on the trip, id like to do more reviews as i go along.
I want to start my gaming bit soon, still trying to find terms of use/service on a particular game.

I'm not a very confident person and its been scary as hell talking to the camera, usually have to wait til the house is empty to record anything. Haven't got great lighting for my room but daylight from the window helps I've noticed though it can go light to dark pretty quick and back again.

I really want to make a career out of this and willing to put the work/effort in to making it work.
Quick question also, on average how many subscribers would you say for someone in the Uk you need to be earning, that would be cover similar to min wage. Due to circumstances under a huge amount of pressure to get a so called Real job and my health is more important so sooner i can at least get to a min wage scale, sooner that pressure will go away.

Hey Drewbles,

First off, if you are looking at YouTube as a carrier pathway, I will say that it might not work out as well as you hope. First off, I see that you say that you will put the effort and work to make it work, but most times, it is not entirely up to that, so it could take from a few months to years before you can make enough money to even count it as an income of any sorts. YouTube is very unpredictable, and if you do not do it purely because you enjoy it, after month of possibly going almost nowhere or having little growth you will stop. On the other hand it is possible to have a quick growth and get popular within a few months time, however it is very unlikely.

Secondly, I see that you made a video about Trump and Clinton, but so did another ten thousand people and thus your video as you are a smaller channel with be most likely unseen by the vast majority of people, which is something all starting YouTubers faces and it is very difficult to get out of this area from personal experience. Adding onto that, make sure that you get your facts right, if you want to do one of these types of videos, it is not good to spread info of which a lot very much comes from your own opinion, for example look at the TYT network, they have many videos regarding this topic from which you will be able to learn lots. Always make sue to look at many different sources from many different publishers with different views, but make sure that the info is the same, if it is not, then be careful with what you say yourself. It is better to make a video about facts and educate people than about opinion, as you will get a lot of people on both sides that might strongly agree with you or disagree. Especially if you said that you are not too confident, I can tell you that some people do not hold themselves back unfortunately and you might feel really down from what how they will expresses their own views, so always be careful with those types of videos.

In terms of the content itself, the thumbnails need work as they are not very appealing, in that I do not meant that you should make them click bate, but make it seem like it is interesting, not just quickly thrown together. The artwork for the banner needs to be more personalised, right now it is very generic and not very visually appealing.

I hope those are some good points to start from and I hope that you really think this through and think about the situation that you are in more clearly and sensibly. YouTube is like any other job, it is very difficult to get into and it will be long before you will make minimum wage from it, and it will be even more work and time before you reach any big results, so just really give it some thought. I with you the best and I hope everything will somehow work out :)

I know what it's like to feel lacking in confidence or trying to record alone, but that's already putting in half effort when you want this to be your career. Imagine going to an interview at a real job and being timid and self conscious an whatnot, it would not work out well. YouTube in part is an acting gig, you have to be someone you aren't when it comes to issues like self doubt, self consciousness, etc... Not saying be completely fake, but you have to act, whether you're acting for your own sake to better yourself on screen, or for everyone else's sake, you gotta do it nonetheless.

You have to pour confidence into every video, you have to be charismatic, and then you have to work your face off and in a year or two or three you'll see results.

Hey thanks for replying. Long reply so will take my time to read through it, appreciate the time and effort you put in to reply.
The thing for me, is i do enjoy making content, i like planning, filming, editing and with YT, you can make regular content, i feel inspired more.
Yeh the Trump/Clinton one i made, i don't mind that not reaching a big audience, think i express my own opinion more and honestly not many people want to know how corrupt things and i get branded crazy conspiracy type so think its more a learning what is good and what is bad for me.
Yeah i agree the thumbnails need work, i finally finish editing and then uploading, i tend to end up rushing the thumbnail, its choosing a style that will suit me cuz i notice with other Ytubers their thumbnails usually have the same font etc.
Definitely need to do something with my Banner but trying to think what to put here.

I agree, hardest thing for me though is having confidence around my own family, currently living with parents and sister n her husband(temporary as they sold their house and waiting for the keys to their new house). I don't know what it is about my family, its like they suck all confidence out of me and make me feel worthless

I think that's pretty normal, unless it's one of those super close families. Just keep improving yourself and your content, early on you might be doing all this for nothing but some day all hard work is paid off.

Just a few questions as I have ideas im working on but needs tips/advice.

1. Music, i love music and very passionate about a lot of bands/artists, is there anyway at all to talk about these with clips from live performances/music videos, 5-10secsonds, would this come under Fair-use?
2. My Gaming I plan on doing is a bit different to everything else I've seen so may or may not work but I assume the latest games are easier to find out about Terms of use etc but I'm struggling to find info on older games as far back as the 80s, in particular games by Sierra. any ideas?

If the music is copyrighted and the producers have not given everyone permission to use it, even if they have given you permission to use it, you will very likely still get into trouble because from YouTube as in most cases it does not know if you have necessarily been given permission or not, so with music with copyright is always a bit of an issue. Even using a single second can get you into trouble technically. So if you want to do something with music, look for songs which are free to use, free to share, etc.

It's good that you are already thinking of playing games differently, for most of us YouTube gamers it takes a bit before we can find our own thing. about the terms of use, again, not too sure with later games, I would personally give it a shot and record them, but at least mention the game creators and maybe add a link in the description or something

My 2cents: Put some text or art or something on your banner or description that tells us what your channel is about. If its about everything...people may subscribe to someone else that they know specializes on one theme. Does that make sense? I dunno.

yeah i agree, got a guy on fiverr creating a cartoon image of me to hopefully add to the banner and will re-design it.[DOUBLEPOST=1478903392,1478903087][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yeah the music one is an issue i like people such Ingrid Michaelson, Jewel, Meiko, Zella Day, Third eye blind, etc, pretty much almost unheard of here in the Uk but trying to help promote their music would be impossible without some music so they'll have to go without.

As for games, i might try and make a video this weekend if i can, not tried recording my screen and mic at the same time so got a bit of testing to do first but the idea behind my gaming, i have a name for it but cant really express on here to avoid possible copying which im sure might happen once i begin. I wanna do like maybe two episodes a week for my gaming and if i can get the internet stable, start my own twitch for a couple of hrs a week.
