Feedback on Dance Film?

Hey guys,

I'm a film maker, currently about to start my third year at uni. I made a dance film in my second year which I finished a few months ago, which is now on my channel (amathematicalartist) called Elysian. I haven't really got any external feedback on it from anyone outside of uni and would love to hear some youtuber's opinions! As a film maker it's very important to me to grow and your feedback is very helpful for me in order to do so! Plus it's a real bonus have people watch it after putting so much of yourself into making it, as I'm sure you're all extremely aware of!

Thank you so much, especially if you leave a comment / review - I really appreciate it!

Lauren :)

Very nice coursework! I had mixed thoughts towards the dancers as there was sensuality as well as a kind of eerie ambience.
Instead of dancing in the darkness which I would understand as a focus on the characters - I think it would have been nice if they were dancing through lets say memories. Whether its the guy's or the girl's or even couple based? I don't know just a thought I had xP

Thank you so much for your reply! That's a really cool idea! I've actually done another video on memories called RAM on my channel from last year :) so I love any concepts with memories in them and will definately be taking that on with me to other future projects. The purpose of the darkness was to give an impression of being underwater, in relation to the poem we based it off (Liminality - Neil Hilborn), or just the isolation they were in, as they were fighting to be together :)

Well it succeeded lol - keep it up! :P

I was getting bored rather quickly and then I realized that something was going on besides just the dancing. I ended up watching the entire thing a few times and was able to figure out what was happening. I only then noticed the description. I honestly think it's brilliant. Well directed, well choreographed, and well performed. I thought it was a good idea (albeit not completely unique), and I do happen to think the dancing against black worked very well here. Oh, and the camera work and editing were very good as well. Overall I liked it. Entertaining and thought provoking.

I think you might have explained too much in the description though. I think it would have been more interesting to see how people interpret the film on their own.

We'd love to believe that our past memories go through our heads just before I die, but I don't think that is always the case. To me the blackness, in addition to being an excellent prop to contribute to that floating dancer effect, signifies the finality of death. The bleakness of it. The inevitability. The emptiness.

I think inevitability and bleakness can still be conveyed with the dancing in those past memories as we know what is meant to happen will happen. The dancing through the memories can show no repercussions but at the same time triumph that the couple made it through it
