A fan commented under one of my videos: Would you consider doing real game reviews? i find your peeks a bit borring now. and the web is just full of “lets plays” wich is the same as your peeks… mix it up a bit?
You need a thick skin for you-tube...

I constantly strive to improve my videos – criticism and suggestions are welcome. There is only so many ways you can present new games.
So, you want me to play through a game for 6~8 hours, tell you if I like it or not and whether you should buy it or not? There are hundreds of sites and You-Tubers that do that. Are you getting an honest opinion or review though? I do this for fun, not for the money. I have no delusions of grandeur regarding my popularity, but it would be nice if I could grow. This is a passion for me.
Puzzled – how can I say whether a game is good or not? How can I tell you what “you” will enjoy? I don’t know how you can dissect “fun” – Either I enjoy a game or I don’t. If I get a few hours of enjoyment out of a game, I consider it money well spent – whether I finish it or not. I don’t know how people can analyse a game to the point of “how much fun they’re having” or “what type of fun” they’re having – kind of kills the fun factor.
I am constantly evolving and adjusting my video presentation “style” and information – most of my new videos, I go through the options menus, show off the different configurations. In some games, I mention the history of the game, read out the Wiki and other info.
Reviewing: In all my recent videos – If I’m playing a game, I mention the [1] gameplay as I experience it real-time. As for [2] Graphics, you see the game running at 1080p on my videos with all options maxed out, and [3] sound you are hearing is through a top of the range dedicated hardware Sound Card.
Graphics and Sound are meaningless if the game is fun. Fun is subjective. If you want to see my reaction? [4]I am super-imposed over the game in a 840×480 window where you can see my real-time, first-time reaction to a game. Let’s face it – a “lot” of so-called “let’s play” people are putting on an act. Heck, many of the big guys are paid to try new games.
[5] If I ever get paid to look at a game (doubt I’ll ever get that big), I will give full disclosure prior to starting the video – I won’t put it hidden in the comments section somewhere as what recently happened when a bunch of guys were found out to being “sponsored” to play a game.
I have bought (yes, personally paid for and bought) over 150 games for you guys in the last five months for my videos. I also do read comments and [6] I also do consider requests. Check some of the “big arrogant guys” with their “We don’t take requests” – the Wocky reads almost all his comments on videos and appreciates you telling him about new games – sometimes just takes a bit of time.
[7] There are not hundreds of other YouTubers with the audio, video equipment I currently have, nor do they speak as clearly as I do, nor do they (I hope) express their real-time, unfolding reaction to the game as well as I do. My stuff is live, unscripted. No acting – I’m not that good of an actor, seriously.
I would also argue “most” gameplay videos just have commentary over the video and you never even see the commentator – even the top game critic doesn’t show his face during his videos!
This is “my” video series. “I” am playing the game for the first time, learning the game as I go. From my video, you can accurately determine whether the learning curve is high, whether “I” am having fun or not just by watching me, listening to my comments, my reactions. From my reaction and from the game, I would hope you can tell whether or not you would enjoy the game.
As much as this sounds narcissistic, there may be many “quick peek” type videos out there, but there is only one “Wocky” way of doing things. I regard mine a helluva lot better than most.
Thanks for your input. I am truly always trying to “mix” things up and add more, but I am mostly content with the style in which I present things at the moment. There is always room for improvement, however.
When I have more time, expect more “Jabbers”, more “Real Life” videos. The “rants” will not occur often because I truly don’t get angry that often and I’m not going to “act” angry at everything just to get subscription numbers.
What I can offer? Now that my audio, video, capture equipment is sorted? Generally five high quality videos each week – maybe more as my subscription numbers go.
Hope you understand and took the time to read this. I may do a vLog on this when I get a moment.
