Fan Translations!

Animation Yey!
Hey guys, I'm mostly posting this as a reminder for everyone to check their subtitles pages for updates, as I expected an email or message from youtube when someone submitted a fan translation, but nope, and look at all these I missed!

and once you review and publish them, youtube also tells you if there's been revisions too:

that is literally the coolest thing! I knew about this feature, but it works a lot better than I thought.

Some tips I have learned that you can take away from this post:

1) - always check this when you have time, as youtube does not inform you, nor is there a way to be informed. You can access this area by going to creator studio -> community -> Manage subtitles and CC.

2) You must first make your own original language subtitles first, as the translators are only able to translate line for line what you have already submitted.

3) - make sure you subtitle text aswell. I made the mistake of forgetting to subtitle places where there are visual signs and text that was not speech. This is required for translators to be able to convert those into other languages.

Also If anyone has better experience with this, is there a way for me to find out who submitted the subtitles? I would love to credit them in the description for taking the time out to do this for me, but I can't find them!

Hah, I would also see if you can double check those to make sure it's not just someone doing some crazy dubbing :p But that's awesome that fans are actually contributing those!

Can you deactivate this feature?
yes, if you go to that page and click the cog for settings. I have mine set for review first.

yeah I have mine set so i can review them first, and its multiple people that revise it too :)

it's text, maybe one day YouTube will allow us tp upload dubbed audio to pre existing videos? That would be a cool future edition!

Wouldn't that require the original audio to be separated in the first place though? One for voiceover / narration and one for whatever audio the video has. Because if they are not separated then the dub would just be put on top of the original voiceover / narration together with the audio and that'll be weird or damage the whole experience. (except YT developed super crazy off-vocal algorithm which can cut the voiceover from the rest of the audio flawlessly, but I don't see that thing happening soon, if ever)

Just a thought :D
