'Famous' Tubers

i mean, there are a few factors that come into play here. looking at the comparison between Jenna Marbles and Ryan Higa, they appeal to different audiences. I know the college scene is all about Jenna Marbles because her brand of comedy appeals to these people. Yes, looks definitely play a role in this, but looks play a role in almost all of the big youtubers, so I don't think we can single that out to Jenna Marbles or iJustine. also (still on Jenna Marbles), I feel like her "prattling on about her over-priviledged life" is more of a persona, just like Steven Colbert's on Comedy Central.

not that I'm trying to overly defend Jenna Marbles, because I'm a bigger Ryan Higa and Wong Fu Productions fan (essentially a fan of all the big youtubers), but all I'm saying is that it's kind of tough to compare.

the biggest difference in my eyes is content. like I said, Jenna Marbles is very popular with that college demographic because her content is filled with the sex jokes, dirty jokes, and pretty much anything you can think of that appeals to most college students. Ryan Higa's videos have a little more sustenance and appeals to a different crowd.

iJustine's gaming channel, approx 1.4 MILLION views per month - over 250k subs
To me these are terrible stats. Then again, I think iJustine is the worst kind of female gamer ever. Not cos she's bad at games, but because she gives female gamers a bad name by being that dumb bimbo girl who tries to pwn men at manly-shooty-butch games to prove she can be as good as them.

Markiplier's channel (also gaming), approx SEVEN MILLION view a month - little over 100k subs
Well I need say no more. Dude's just hilariously awesome in my book hahaha.

TWO RANDOM VLOGGING CHANNELS:

JennaMarbles, approx 40 million views per month (holy sh*t lol) - just over 6.5 million subs
Yeah. Get someone who doesn't look like a stripper and I might believe she's worth of the subs and views haha. Sorry, no offence intended really, but if she were fat, ugly and had braces or something nobody would give a rats a** if she broke her iphone, or that she had a dog resembling a rat. Not jealousy talking, I can't stand to listen to her prattle on about her over-privileged life!

NigaHiga, approx 27 million views per month - just under 7 million subs
Now this guy has MORE subs that JennaMarbles by almost half a million (is only gaining about a quarter per day to what she does though), but although he creates interesting content/sketches, has much less views.

Rather random thoughts lol no real point to this point. Just surprises me how some people are WAY more popular but get less views and vice-versa.

Well , forget his name but a guy Vultra just partnered : 80,000 subs but 3 Million views a month.

And you forgot . one of my least favourite people ever who got famous by fake screaming and giving fake or over-reactions : Pewdiepie : 4.7 Million subscribers and 160 Million views monthly....
 
May I bring up RWJ? He is 2nd most subscribed channel, and he spends absolutely NO time on his videos, has the WORST comedy I have ever seen. But people like Isn'tChrisL have like 150 subs, but he spends way more time on his videos and are extremely funny! Its so backwards... Not trying to suck up, just using an example. :P

He puts alot more effort into his videos then you think.... It was to do with Maker Studios that he has gone downhill his jokes used to be great that`s why he got a 15% increase in subs after leaving Maker Studios :p

There`s loads of them , some of the big gaming people have no skill, non-enjoyable commentaries yet 100s of 1000s of subs.
Most;y just because they got on Machinima Respawn/Realm back in 2009-2011 when they were getting 200k - 750k views on every video :p
 
I would imagine their core chain of subscribers/viewers are from a not so yet mature audience.
As you get older, your tastes will change as well. (Hopefully)
Heck, I watched RWJ before but now I feel it's overused, and I simply don't find him that funny anymore.

Also, different people; different tastes.

I guess I was referring more to when maker studios was with him, they did practically everything for him, jokes and all, I will admit that he has gotten a little better since leaving them, and now he puts more work into his videos. I haven't watched his videos in a while so thats why I was talking about when he was with maker studios.
 
Just inmagine if youtube didn't pay people, How many people would stay be making videos right now and what kind of job would RWJ have for example. Sometimes it's fun to think about that.
