Facebook - Share image with video link in the description for more user interaction?

In a Youtube marketing article I found an interesting strategy for sharing YT videos on Facebook. They recommend creating an interesting screenshot or thumbnail of the video and uploading that image to Facebook, then putting the YT link in the description.

Reasons:
- Images take up more real estate
- Views on YT have higher count in ranking than embedded views
- On YT the viewer is more likely to rate/subscribe/share/...

What do you think about that?

It's exactly what I do for all those reasons and I really like it. It also helps if you have some really nice thumbnails that look good when larger.

I do the same thing; but people get p****d that they click on the image and it doesn't take them to the video.

Therefore, it's easier to use that proper branded link with the min-screenshot and video metadata.

The only problem I have with that is that Youtube only uses a part of my actual custom thumbnail and it doesn't look good and enticing to click.

I've worked around that by incorporating key points into that area.

But it's still a lose/win/lose situation.

I've just made a YouTube channel and the first thing I did was upload all my thumbnails to albums (depending on 2014 or 2015) and add the links. Just in case someone wanted to binge :')
