Enabling account for external annotation links

I was in the process of enabling my account for external annotation links and I got to the point of accepting the terms and conditions. Youtube tells me "Don't use external links to redirect traffic across domains." What is that supposed to mean? Isn't the only purpose of an external link to redirect traffic? I must be misunderstanding something.

I just looked this up last week because I had the same question. Go ahead and google it because I don't remember the exact answer. In my case my channel is for an animal shelter and I was putting in an annotation for people to donate using the shelter's web page. It was ok to do because the channel and the website were for the same organization. I'll try and find the link and post it, but I think the "problem" is if you send people to a webpage that has nothing to do with your channel.[DOUBLEPOST=1464807207,1464806864][/DOUBLEPOST]I think this is the link that helped explain: https://productforums.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/youtube/vIwK3BcKLRA

Thank you for the link Redford! I had noticed that some of the bigger channels were able to link to their facebook and Twitter accounts using annotations. Hopefully this is something accessible to all channels soon.
