Editing Software Advice

[JustAnotherBritishFangirl]

Yesterday I filmed a video on my new Canon and uploaded it to my computer but Windows Movie Maker wouldn't let me open the video to edit it and I am unsure what the problem is. Have any of you had this problem before?

I'm not sure if I need to use a new software so if you use another software to edit apart from Movie Maker that is free please tell me about it below.

WMV has problem opening files which aren't wmv or mp4, and has problems editing videos which are mp4. You might have better luck with Lightworks or Adobe Premiere Pro CS2, both of which are free. Be warned, files from CS2 are HUGE.
