Editing a timer onto a video

I'll start off by saying that this isn't really something I would use often on my videos, so I'm looking for a program that can do it that's either free or really cheap, I don't want to spend $100-$1000 on a feature I'll only use once.

Basically, I had an idea for a single video I would make, and I thought it out, and eventually it hit me that I have no way to put a timer on the video, which would be necessary, so I stayed up late an extra half hour last night looking it up, and I didn't get any closer to being able to do it, because any program that was recommended was extremely pricey, and most of the search results I found were extremely outdated too.

There are a couple ways an editor could do this, either by having a feature that simply lets you put a timer on the video, or having a feature that allows you to put another video over yours, and I could record a video of a timer to use.

If this really isn't possible with any free or cheap programs, since I'm only needing this feature for one video, would anyone with a program already be able to do it for me? I guess I could privately upload the video, send it to you, and tell you where I need a timer to appear, and where I need it to stop. And if you have PayPal I could send a couple dollars or something for your trouble.

I'd be interested in knowing how you get on with this... I've struggled in the past and given up completely in the end. What can I say? I'm a quitter.

I guess, if my channel grows to a certain point, I may invest in one of those expensive video editors with that option, but at this moment, considering I would only be using it for one video which would receive less than 5 views, it doesn't seem worth spending hundreds of dollars on it now.

So the free video editor I used to crop my videos no longer works for some reason, so now would be a good time for me to get a video editor that has both of these features.

Any recommendations yet?!

Still looking for an editing program, moreso now that Movie Maker decides to randomly shut down in the middle of editing every few minutes. So if I don't hit the save button after every little thing, I need to start over.

Sorry - good features = more money. I would suggest doing this in Adobe After Effects since there is an effect in it for doing just this - adding a timer. Unfortunately, AE costs a bomb so you won't want it. I have never come across a good free/cheap effects program so I suspect what you are looking for doesn't really exist. Save up and buy Adobe Production Premium!

Look in the list of editing programs if you are looking for anew one. I believe it is pinned to the top of this forum.
