DVD recorder or Capture Card?

What is smarter and easier to use?
Me and my friend are filming some old retro gaming videos and just filming the tv screen just doesn't look good.
Any opinions??

I'd say capture card with component inputs like my hauppauge HD Capture Card (Gaming edition) this way you could do HD but still use standard def with the Capture (its just the aspect ratio that's effected )

yup everything your tv sees the capture card sends to your computer to record when u hit the magic button on the software.

Use a capture card made for this purpose or playing the game will be delayed, and it will be extremely hard to record.

Capture card. The Elgato has the component to S-video adapater so if you wanted to use older consoles with the RCA/component connectors. You can also use it to do PS3 and other consoles, you can even use it for your PC via HDMI.

capture card, and i would go with the elgato game capture HD
I thought that only had HDMI input?

I'd buy a capture card with component/composite cables, that way you can also record newer games in HD if you want to.
My HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition has HDMI and Component input, not composite, but I think it could work with those too. Not sure, though.

Here's a few I've used:

Hauppauge HD PVR
This has both component and composite cable input. Short and chunky cables. Can record 360p-1080i

Hauppauge HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition
Has HDMI input, as well as component input. Can record up to 1080p.

Dazzle DVD Recorder
This is a DVD recorder, I had a Dazzle as my first capture card. The quality wasn't great, and Pinnacle isn't the best editing software. But I think it's cheaper?
