DSLR with elgato

So I know I have to get a HDMI cable for the DSLR to plug it into the laptop but when I was recording I couldn't find the setting to take my webcam off or to even change the video output so I kinda don't want to buy a HDMI cable for my DSLR if I can't use it with elgato. Is it possible?

I think it depends if your camera has live HDMI output. I have had issues with this in the past with both DSLR and a camcorder. Come camcorders only allow firewire live output which will have a small delay.
