DSLR camera or a professional camcorder? Need help :(

He didn't ask about lighting and audio so I was just focused on the camera. And I actually looked at his channel which he does vlogs on. He's not a gamer. He doesn't need to worry about audio or a mic because a DSLR will suffice for quality audio. This coming from a vlogger myself. And also, his lighting is already sufficient. If it wasn't all he would have to do is buy a cheap lamp or two, it's not that much money. For a vlogger, the camera is prime, everything else is second.

No, he didn't, you're right about that. However, that does not mean that the quality of the audio and the lighting do not matter. Having good lighting and audio quality makes for a much more professional videos, and purchasing a camcorder would save money to put into these kinds of things, like a microphone that's better than a DSLR microphone. It's all about balance, there's no point in having an amazing camera if everything else is average quality.

I have to disagree, the quality of the audio is extremely important. Many of us will sit through fuzzy picture quality if the audio is good. DSLR's do not have good enough onboard mics.

For a vlogger? I don't find it enticing when a vlog has fuzzy picture but great audio. It works that way for gamers. For gamers, you don't even need any picture quality. But for vloggers, camera is top priority. For the purpose of a vlogger, DSLR's audio quality is pretty amazing. I would hope for something so expensive.

You can get a high tech camera, super expensive, and then buy lighting and audio cheap and still have a professional look. I use a 300 dollar camcorder and my subscribers will complain I need "better quality" or to "upgrade my camera". It's very second that they talk about my lighting and they never talk about my audio.

You are ******** me right? Go ahead and check out my channel and load up the cars and coffee dallas video of december. Scroll to 10:40 and listen to that audio. That was from a Sony α6000 camera. Internal mics... Trust me, the audio on DSLR's are fine.

To answer the OP's question: If you do not have a photo-camera and want one get a DSLR. But, I would opt for a mirror-less one like the sony α6000 I borrowed and will be buying next year. They are far easier to work with, and work like a conventional point a shoot camera, whilst having that awesome shutter speed. Otherwise a cheap 250 dollar handy-cam will do just fine!

Audio and video are both very important. Ideally, you'll have both. Entry level DSLRs aren't even that expensive compared to the other options

And, did you listen to that sound? How clear and crisp that is? Speaking would be exactly the same, just as clear and crisp.

Bit tricky to compare them, since they are quite different, DOF on mirrorless cameras is pretty poor iirc, which is what a lot of people seek in DSLRs. If you invest in good image quality, spending an extra few dollars on good sound is well worth it. A lot of DSLRs have really bad preams, especially the entry levels ones so you have to be weary when buying a mic..

DOF on the α6000 is pretty good tho! Check out 1:16 on that December cars and coffee video. Plenty of DOF. It all depends on how you focus. Not bad for a kit 16-50mm lens!

Yea will also agree, I should state that I am a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to audio and video, so I'll always be suggesting that people take a look at external recording.
I've always been tempted by a mirrorless, some of them seem really damn good for the size factor..Maybe if I can get away with one fo rmy next camera

I am going to tell you... that α6000 is a pretty darn fine camera. I borrowed it for a trail run at that cars and coffee. But I am impressed. If it isn't under the Christmas tree it will be on the card the day after Christmas. I need a new camera, and the fact it did so well on video makes it that much more awesome.
