Does YouTube prioritise HD videos?

Hi there, I have a question:

I was wondering: Does YouTube prioritise HD quality videos (so anything over 480p with the 'HD' on the quality setting) - or is this not a factor? Are the search rankings & suggested videos based on relevance and watch time alone? So in theory a video in 480p could be the first choice if it had the most relevance and the best watch time - Is that so?

Thoughts?

I don't think the quality of the video matters (the resolution quality at least).
But i do know that every HD video (720p or higher) gets a little "HD" mark to show that it is HD
You could say that HD videos get more prioritization, because there are a lot of people who might feel that if the video only goes up to, say, 480p, then they think that the video won't be any good, so they stay away and look for a video that DOES have HD resolution.
Just my thoughts

True, I do think people are getting quite used to 'HD' being the common video standard - Whether it's enough to actually click off a video is another thing - I think if the content is strong enough they should be able to stay regardless of the quality, providing the sound and the visuals are pretty good (minus the HD factor)

It's just if the YouTube algorithm starts to discriminate against non HD content , that's my concern

I personally don't think so. It's more about what the viewer thinks about the video. If people watch it and don't like the quality and leave within a few seconds then YouTube will not favor your video.

It's all about views, likes and time watched.
 
Your content has to be really good to keep me watching a video under 720P, I usually tend to find a different video if it's not perfect the first 15 seconds.
