Does Social Media really help??

Undiscovered....
I have a review channel, where I review gadgets and other such items. My most successful videos tend to be GoPro related at the moment though!

Anyway, I have no FaceBook, no Twitter, and no Instagram - hence I have no links from my channel to any social media other then Google+, and thats only because I had to opt into Google+ a while back. Even then I do not use it, do not post on it except for anything that goes on automatically - when I release a video for example.

So I pretty much have NO social media. I just don't feel as thought I would have much to share through such channels?

I've just signed up to Instagram though - as I thought I could take the odd image of a new item Im currently reviewing so followers would know what coming etc.

I've considered having a website made, although Im after someone who has HTML experience to make it interactive etc, where I could place blogs and other such updates. It would also be an avenue for me to sell some of the items I review, as a UK based distributer etc.

Without any desire to integrate Facebook or Twitter into the mix, am I hurting my channel, or missing out on reaching a wider audience?

It really depends on how you utilize it, for example when I do indie games I usually stick hashtags like #indie in my tweets and I get a few retweets and traffic to my videos but try it on a Minecraft video and nothing. You however could benefit quite considerably from it, if you tweet videos about new gadgets you have reviewed people would be looking for them and so people on Facebook and Twitter would find your video asw well, thus more traffic to your videos.

You're probably not hurting your channel by not having one, it's just another way for fans to get in contact with you and for you to update fans on stuff, like if you were giving away something you could tweet or post it on Facebook and drive more traffic to your videos, but like I said above you do reviews and alike, and on stuff people know and look for, so social media would be another source of viewers for you and bring in some new subscribers.

Well I m a YOUTUBER but I didnt make any social Media FACEBOOK Pages or Instagram to promote my channel, the main point is keep uploading the videos you make, right audience will catch u, once u get the audience, they will ask u to make pages and instagram and twitter and all stuffs to stay updated.... so first concentrate on ur cool videos....!! Social media doesnt really work but if u show effort, it turns out like a MIRACLE :D

I think it really depends on the channel. Tutorials and reviews tend to find the audience on it's own but more entertainment, opinions, and lets plays benefit from using social media.

But I think ANY channel will benefit from using it, some extra exposure wouldn't hurt.

When I upload a lets play I post a tweet, update my tumblr, post it on Steam, gamejolt and indiedb, reddit, and this forum. That might seem like overkill but lets plays are hard to promote these days and I've been getting more views on this channel than my old one where I never did any of that stuff so it must help :p

When I look at my traffic sources in analytics I've been seeing views come from every outlet I've been using.

I found it has helped. I have done test where I don't post too facebook and Twitter and Google+ and only forums and then I have posted to only social media and no forums.. Then both.. I noticed when I posted to Social media I did have an up count in views and comments and shares.

Its tough because i believe its based on what category of video you create. If its useful information on new gadgets have you tried pushing a journalist to include you in a magazine? (good idea) Social media i find most videos on social media are those instantly entertaining videos that can go "viral"

we've only been doing this like 6 months so our research is limited
But Twitter and Tumblr really haven't helped at all.
900ish twitter followers and like 60 tumblr followers
We don't get a ton of views from either.
Facebook has been solid but mostly from our personal accounts.

But I think once you become an established channel with actual fans it's good to have it running already.
