Does disabling ratings make you look bad?

I don't think that will affect your audience that hard. I rather want more people commenting then thumbing down without further information. Imho I think disable ratings isn't that bad or anything like that.

it looks like some of your subscriber are either trolls or just people who dont like your videos after all and just dont bother unsubbing and instead just go and thumb down all of your work...
it sucks :/

I don't think it's my subs that are doing it for the most part. Every time I get a sub I check a person's channel. If it's clear they do nothing but troll/argue/etc then I simply block them and lose the sub. It's usually quite obvious if a person is only there to be an arsehole. I think it's either the occasional passer by or people on other comments/videos I've disagreed with who want to be the big man and show what they can do lolol.

I also agree, having disabled ratings has very negative connotations and does not make me keen on a channel. I saw someone from here had disabled all their ratings even though their videos were cool, I wanted to upvote and couldn't and having disabled videos really doesn't look good to me. If you are getting a lot of haters, disable until they move on and then re-enable it again.

there's a whole tirade against female gamers on YouTube which means that just by being on there I am 'asking for it'.

Get a voice changer and pretend you are a robot then you can't get all this hate for being a gamer girrrrl.

... suprisingly, i though people would be more mature on the internet... at least, mature enough to not dislike videos if you dont agree with the maker commenting on a video by someone else.
hehe, oooh internet, do i love your young users.

i am soo sorry i read the Thread name wrong! (i am gaming and yttalking so sue me LOL) I really don't know how Disabling your raitings works i can't imagine it would look too bad my only concern would be that if no one can like my videos it wouldn't show up on subscribers feeds unless they leave a comment and some people don't comment they just rate the video after watching..so unless there might be a cut in views

I don't mind thumb gnomes, and am not upset or offended by them. Everyone has them, as we know.

But I have noticed that the thumbs always appear at particular times. Usually after a disagreement with someone, however calm, however heated. Not always, sometimes they just pop up genuinely, but once in a while I'll get thumbs down on a whole batch all at once. This will continue for a while and then I'll usually lose a sub and this will stop.

The more views and subs I'm getting, I'm noticing the more thumbs down I am getting. I know my vids are generally good (or I'd have a lot less likes), but there's a whole tirade against female gamers on YouTube which means that just by being on there I am 'asking for it'.

I mean thanks for the view and all but.... well, f*ck off if you're not actually gonna watch the vid, you know?

Anyway. IS it a bad idea to disable ratings? I'm not overly fussed about thumbs. It's views, comments and my subs that matter to me. But I worry because usually the videos that have ratings disabled are usually really, really disliked and may automatically make people think 'well this must be rubbish'.

TL:DR - I'm rambling. But, is disabling ratings a good/bad idea? What are your thoughts?
It makes you look like you`ve something to hide, botters often disable comments and ratings so people can`t say they bot because they have a high view:interaction ratio.
So if I saw someone had disabled them I`d think they were botting or had been dislike botted by someone.

I totally disagree with this, Shane. Everything isn't about some bot. Sometimes people are working hard and they are sick and tired of being trolled. Everything isn't always black and white..then again maybe that's how it is with gaming channels. I don't know. I turned off my thumbs because I'm sick of getting trolled. I put up a video of a recipe and 15 seconds latter I got a thumbs down. Did they try the recipe that fast?

I don't want to look on my site and see that crap after I've just spent money on ingredient, moving the camera around 12 times while trying to cook, editing for two hours, researching and testing recipes that are not only easy but tasty, going over to the blog and typing out the recipe, taking a bunch of photos of the food after I've prepared it,voicing over the thing until it sounds decent. While also working a real job in a hot kitchen.

All for 15 seconds after I upload someone to thumbs down me without even a seconds thought. If they don't like my videos, then move along nothing to see here. But as long as I have the option to turn them off no one is going to thumbs down me for my hard work. You don't like my food leave me a comment, my lighting sucks, leave me a comment, my volume is too high, leave me a comment. Tell me why with a comment or get the heck out of here. And that my friend, doesn't have anything to do with a bot.

I turned them off last week and have never felt better.

I'd say it would be a good idea to stop arguments and stuff, but sometimes people think the ratings have been disabled because the person doesn't want to look bad, but if you think this is going to solve problems i'd try it and see the results

I wanted to answer you directly, My first videos never had thumbs and frankly I had forgotten about them until I had to delete a bunch to prepare for partnership because of music. Long story short, many that I had taken the time to optimize regularly ranked pretty high in search. So I do believe it affects SEO but not very much. So of my most popular video at the time had no thumbs and when I looked them up where on the first page or second or search. Now, this isn't gaming where there are probably millions of people doing the exact same games and using the exact same keywords so that is a consideration. :)
