Does camera gear really matter?

Whatsup community! :D

I was wondering this for quite a while now.

Will you click away from a video if the quality is bad but the content is good?

Audio is huge to me. I can put up with poor video quality but if you have poor sound...I don't read lips so you lose me.

Cheers,
Scott

hmmm, its hard to say, my phone records at 720p and i record my voice with a Snowball mic, to me, its not too bad quality but i would like to improve both my facecam and audio, this part is where i struggle because i really don't know what is a half decent camcorder, but i do hopefully want to get a blue yeti :D

It depends. I've stayed on some bad quality videos if I've needed to see the content. But most cases I'll go and try and find a better quality one. Especially if it's something there's a few versions of then find the best quality one. If it's someone's personal video then it maybe doesn't have to be 1080p but it definitely still has to have some quality to it. I can't watch blurry videos!

Personaly the video quality does not bother me. I watch vlogs where people just use their Iphones/etc and its fine to me.
I started out with the same way and all of my videos are recorded on a smart phone.

Personally audio quality is more important than image quality. My lavalier and shotgun mics both broke in the same week, meaning I've had to resort to the on board mic on my dslr until the replacement arrives. I can tell you now that I am dying a little inside every time I edit lol. Thankfully my subscribers understand after I explained in a video, about what happened and hopefully a new one will arrive tomorrow.

A couple years ago I was recording tips and guide videos with the built in mic on my laptop that sounded awful and people still watched them. The blue yeti is a really big difference, but it's not like everyone was commenting that I didn't have one either. With that said I do think the standard has gone up a bit in the past few years. If I'm watching gameplay and it's under 1080p I probably won't watch it.

If the video has information that I really want to know I'd still watch it. Lots of people use clips recorded on their phone quite successfully, but it's not like you need to see all the details quite like you do when you're watching gameplay either. If the game looks significantly worse in their video than when I play it that will bother me.

The audio is more important especially since people tend to multitask and watch Youtube while doing something else.

After I think the camera of Boogie is not very good but I do not mind ^^

Quality matters, video matters, audio matters, software matters, story matters, thumbnails matters, title matters, etc. etc. Yeah everything matters in a way and everything is a fraction to the equation. Like a puzzle, when you have all the pieces lined up, you create a masterpiece. Create the best masterpiece you can

I think it totally depends!!
A beauty channel needs to be good quality because it's appearance based content.
A vlogging channel doesn't need to be as good because it's all about 'day to day' life and being real.

All the responses in this thread have definitely given me a different perspective. It's interesting that audio is a biggy for most people...

Personally, if the video is bad quality, I won't watch it. Especially if the music is too high/voice too low. I have watched poor-ish quality stuff, but I will usually click away.
Over-compressed or distorted audio really bugs me, so if that occurs, I have to click off of a video haha
