Does Anyone Use Adobe Premiere Elements 11?

Out of the formats it gives you to upload to youtube which one do you use to upload in HD? For some reason the uploads aren't in HD. I record with an HD camera so it's not the camera :help:

I'm not familiar with Preimere, but perhaps look into the settings of your rendering and make sure that the render resolution is at least 1280x720 in size.

And perhaps there is a project properties that you can look at as well to bump up the resolution.

I use Adobe Premiere CC, and after I finish I usually export to Adobe Media Encoder. I believe the only difference between the interface for rendering is the audio, media encoder asks for sample rate whereas premiere asks for bitrate. Here are the settings I use. But be warned, huge files are produced:

Overall:
No Blurs
No Frame Blending
Use Maximum Render Quality is checked

Video:
H.264
1920 x 1080
29.97 FPS
Progressive
Square Pixels (1.0)
NTSC
High Profile
Level = Based on Source, but usually is 4.1
Render at Maximum Depth is checked
VBR, 2 pass
Target: 50mbps (this can be lower, but youtube recommends this. Lowest MBPS I would recommend is 10, lowest youtube recommends is 8 for 1080p video).
Maximum: 62.5mbps
Maximum:
Key Frame Distance is 1

Audio:
AAC
AAC + Version 2 Codec
96000 Hz (it doesn't really matter what your source quality is, I find a higher sample rate gives you better sound)
Anything higher than 256 kbps bitrate (I use 384 but that is excessive)
Stereo (you can use 5.1 if your audio is 5.1, mine is not)
No parametric Stereo
Audio Quality High

Multiplexer:
MP4
Standard

I don't touch the captions or FTP, I upload captions to youtube directly. Hope this helps.

I typically export to window media and set it to 1080p. You get high def video with relatively smaller file sizes.

I have Premier Elements 11, and I've used and been happy with these two presets:

Publish+Share > Computer > MPEG > HDTV 1080p 29.97 High Quality

Publish+Share > Computer > MPEG > MPEG2 1980x1080i 30 (bigger file size, quality seems the same)

50MBPS target? on a VBR?

That seems awfully high

Could you perhaps provide a source for where you found youtube recommending that?

Sure thing @SwingPoynt . I highlighted the bitrate for 1080p. It was found under "Advanced encoding settings" through google support (youtube section)
bitrate.jpg
1000 kbps = 1 mbps

Thank You!

That's crazy, I've often wondered what exactly to throw at youtube. Since they compress things so hard. Whether a video is rendered at 50mbps or 10mbps, it's still going to cap out at 10mbps on youtube's streaming.

I suppose when they reference enterprise quality internet connections, it must be for when they upload.

Exactly. The higher quality footage you throw at them the better it will turn out after compression. But even if you have crazy upload speeds and unlimited bandwidth, tests show that uncompressed video does not end up better after youtube compression, they end up worse than if you upload at 50 MBPS H.264. So I guess when YouTube recommends something they really do think its best.

I used to encode at 32, but have since dropped to 8 on Target. My one issue is that I don't have a dedicated editing computer. If I did, I'd keep the bitrate high, but I need to keep using this machine and it's useless for anything else while rendering. It's funny they mentioned the "enterprise quality internet connection" but nothing about the double or worse render time. :)
