Does An Intro Help or Hinder?

Dice Rollen

Loving YTtalk
I have a 12 second intro at the beginning of each of my videos that's simply a dubstep style song with my name & cool effects. I found a template I could use & made it after someone recommended I add an intro & outro to my videos so be more professional. But more recently a viewer told me that they really didn't think I needed an intro for my let's plays at least. So I dropped the intro for my let's play videos. But I'm wondering if I should just drop the intro altogether & simply keep the outro.
Would the intro help me or does it deter people?

I think an intro can help. We are actually looking at trying to minimize on ours as I feel it's a tad long. I think if it is quick, clean, and has that 'hype' factor it can help. One thing some people do (we've started to do this for our gaming channel) is to take a small 'highlight' from the video and put it at the beginning. Then, cut to a quick intro or simply go right into the video.

For some people, intros and outros work just fine. But they're not for everyone. It just depends on your style. You could get away with having intros and outros in your videos, if you wanted them. With my style, I just start off the video and go from there. I do some let's play videos as well and I don't ever recommend doing intros or outros for them. Since your other videos are vlog related, I'd say you could use intros and outros if needed. For skits and sketches, I'd say just an outro would be suffice. Again, this depends on your style and what you think it should have. Btw, I checked out your channel and I love your vlogs. I'm not so much into the let's play videos (because I'm a retro gamer), but I'm definitely subscribing. Also, since I noticed that you said that you had a dubstep style song in your intro, I thought I'd recommend my music to you. I primarily make music on my channel, most of it being electronic music of all sorts. I do branch out and do other types of videos on my channel, but what I'm trying to say is that you're more than welcome to use any of my music in your videos if you ever need any. I can also make you music. Anyways, take care and I hope you find what you're looking for. =)

I've never really put an intro onto my videos (other than the title along the bottom) so I can't really weigh in on if they're effective or not. My personal preference is not to include one and to get to the point as quickly as possible but I don't think there's really a right or wrong answer as to whether they should be on videos.

I agree with "Kate's Adventures" above. I don't use intros in my videos because I think getting to the point as soon as possible is much more important because of the average user's attention span.

However, I think an outro is a good idea to help brand your content and give user relevant info to help find your channel, social media, etc. I use one and feel it helps.

Okay, thanks everybody for the different view points. :)
I think what I'll probably end up doing is no intro & an outro for the let's play videos & the same for the sketches & short films. But I might keep the intro & outro for other videos like my vlogs & such but maybe add a little clip before the intro like Mr. Kerbibble mentioned. Thanks again.[DOUBLEPOST=1446670006,1446669850][/DOUBLEPOST]

Thanks! I really appreciate you subscribing & I'm glad you like my vlogs ^-^
I'll definitely check out your work, I'd be more than happy to use some in my videos & link back to your channel when I do. :)

Np. And thanks for checking out my channel as well. That sounds good to me. Just let me know what you decide to use and if you need anything from me in the future. =)

Intros are great - my advice is to make one no more then 5 seconds in length and make it coincide with your Branding (yes you will have heard this by now on this site) for instance my intro coincides with the "spinning globe" I made which features at the beginning of some of my videos. These little touches do help with the quality of your videos. :)
